Brilliant golf club. Two fantastic courses in the Old Course and West Course that run around, through and over the Ashdown Forest. Greens and course conditions have been great for many years. Shop, clubhouse and food are very good with continuous improvements. Members and management are friendly also. Old Course feels like a top 50 UK course, whilst the West Course is always a good test and one of the best shorter length courses around. Definitely worth a visit.
On a winter's day when golfing was off the menu, Ashdown Forest can again be peopled with families enjoying slow, muddy walks and not subject to irate tells of 'Fore!' Swathes of tall pines, russet bracken, iron-coloured streams meeting and burbling, small magical waterfalls, golf ball finds for the sharp-eyed, ancient trees to swing from or limbs low enough for children to lounge and rock in - all this makes the golf course area a delight in any weather. Plus some slopes beloved of sledgers in snow - I've even ski-ed on these just because they were there. Can't tell you about the Hotel as it looked closed over Christmas / New Year....
A lovely course well maintained, with good and interesting greens. A huge variety of fairways keeps your interest up, all the way round!
Course has been water logged for 8 weeks. You have to jump thro hoops to join. Very stuck up. Not helpful or friendly. Take your money then decide if you can join. I would recommend not to play there or join as there is an abundance of better courses locally. Very expensive for playing the courses without bunkers??? Mmmmmmmm
Lovely course with many “interesting” holes - the walking is tough but rewarding!
I had the pleasure of playing the West course today.. What a course. So pretty with all 18 holes offering different challenges. The greens were 8 out of 10. Fairways 9 out 10. The tee boxes were 10 out 10, the course layout is great with next tee very close to the previous green! The staff in the club house / pro shop were very professional and friendly, like in a family environment, not fake. I can't even begin to explain the scenery of course, manicured yet natural. Narrow in places. I didn't use my driver once today. The contours of the course can really help you, if you tee off on the correct line. I will be coming back very soon, and I live almost 2 hours away.
Played the West Course, Lovely Course, very enjoyable day for 13 golfers. Will return. Staff helpful and facilities excellent.
Course looked scruffy which maybe down to the hot weather. Rough was very penal and slopes on the fairways took one's ball straight into it. West course was very awkward to follow round. Food and service was very good.
Stunning scenery , a true challenge of a course with views to make you think you are in heaven. Adam Riddle the course manager was very helpful in accommodating our visit. Just wish I had played better.
Stunning design,great history. Well looked after in the clubhouse. Professional was very helpful and good humoured. Played in EGU Captains event. I personally played terrible and its a course you would need to get to know due to several blind holes. My only complaint being the greens wich on the day were inconsistent and slow. Would return though.
