RCAT is a good technical college. It's had a long and somewhat chequered past as local institutions go. Would recommend over TRC.
Avoid attending this college at all costs. My son has been on a course at this college for the past 2.5 years and has been messed about to a totally unacceptable level. He had to resit one of his years due to a tutor leaving and losing all of his work I kid you not. He's had several tutor's in his time, 2 left and actually advised their students to change college due to its inept handling of learning. He regularly arrives at the college as part of his day release for his apprenticeship only to be told to go home as there is no class. His employer have had to log several complaints with the college all of which have made no difference.
The Town Centre campus has facilities for a wide range of curriculum including arts, media and performance, engineering, plumbing, health, social and child care, English and maths, business and IT. The Catering and Hospitality teaching area runs a training restaurant, 'The Wharncliffe', while the Hair and Beauty area run salons for hair, nail and beauty treatments under the brand name 'Inspire'. The 'Studio Theatre puts on student performances. All these services are open to the public. Near the Town Centre Campus, the college has a separate 'Construction Centre' in three units on Rawmarsh Road, where joinery, brickwork, plastering and painting and decorating are taught.
It a every good school You can get some advice from there Learn a lot Meet some new friend
Using this as an alias but I did Games and Animation and did not enjoy it because of a specific tutor. He ruined the whole course and I had to switch college’s because there was nothing else to do.
studied here for 2 years first year art and design was lovely the teachers were great this year in games and animation was poor very poor, only one of the teachers actually helped you and i ended up being called a creep by one of the tutors in that course would not reccommend nobody i know wants to go back
From my time at Rotherham College on the Games and Animation Course Level 3, I have really enjoyed my time for many different reasons and I would recommend the course to anyone interested in game creation or even games in general because you will grow to really enjoy the course. Before I joined Rotherham College, I was at another college which I really did not enjoy at all and I struggled a lot mentally due to this and it felt like I had no support there and the staff were not the best but at this college whenever my mental health would get bad I got the support from peers and tutors when necessary and I have been offered for support for that and ADHD which I also have struggles with and the tutors are extremely understanding, non judgemental and helpful as they may not say specific things but they understand how it can affect me and how they are able to help me out with it. With any problem, the tutors are quick to solve it and do a really good job of getting problems all done and dusted which makes college a more enjoyable experience which is rare with other forms of education I have experienced in my life. Whether the problem is a form bullying or just an overall misunderstanding of a task given by a tutor, it is taken seriously every time. The opportunities I have got from this course is brilliant, I am able to use software such as Autodesk Maya which is really important for me as I see myself possibly using that and the skills I gained from using it in a future job I will get. I have gotten a Student Ambassador job from the course which gives me more skills like how to tackle a job interview and improving my social skills even more. The trips that have been provided have been to a high standard, they have been extremely enjoyable and have also helped me learn things for the course. As of right now, I went to the Harry Potter Studios in Watford which was extremely fun and also got to learn a lot about animation and foley and just what goes into production of such a major project. I also went to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park which was fun and also helped me understand how to get primary research which a very useful skill in my eyes. Right now, I am in Portugal on a trip provided by the college which is helping me learn some skills. I would genuinely say the best tutors I have ever had are on the course I study, they are really good tutors and people as a whole. I have also met some really good people on the course other than my tutors which has made my life the best it has ever been. Beth, Martin and Shane are brilliant tutors and I feel very lucky to have them all.
Last year I applied for Games and animation and it was one of the worst years of my life in education. No one in my lesson talked and the tutor MDM is one of the worst tutors/teachers ever. He called my pathetic once because I struggle with mental health issues like depression and I needed someone to talk to but he didn’t do anything about it. I do IT which is better but the college is still a joke not gonna lie
It's really fun here, currently attending this college and I love it, would really recommend the game design course! And the staff are extremely funny and friendly for a bonus to all the good people and good things you could see and meet
This college claim that they are there for their students and care for their staff/students well being and mental health but in fact do the complete opposite ,they destroy it and leave you to deal with it with no support.
