Such fun at the Rose and Crown Cheese and Wine Night, hosted by Harvey’s - great way to match your cheese and wine. Lots of fun with friends tasting at one of the best pubs in East Sussex. Thank you to the wonderful landlord and landlady for always putting on a good night x
Was there on my own for Sunday lunch. Had the chicken roast. Delicious selection of vegetables, chicken, and gravy. Could have been warmer, though. I'm not keen on a hot meal being served on cool plates. Had a cold drink and then a latte. Staff and service excellent. Very clean, olde worlde pub. Noteworthy details: Within the historic village of Mayfield East Sussex.
Warm and friendly welcome, traditional pub setting. Specials board as well as menu online. Food was really good and well priced. Definitely recommend!
The food is terrible when Sarah isn’t in the kitchen service isn’t brilliant and don’t seem to care. Waiting over 40mins for food that was cold and hardly the price due to portions then for our friend to sit and wait for his when other tables getting served.. the new chef needs to get some training before being let loose.. staff need to care and think about customers and the fires as they always seem to go out or regulars keep it topped up.. sorry guys you need to sort it out.
Received a lovely welcome along with our dogs. Rooms were spotless and very comfortable. The food was amazing, once you have had a breakfast at The Rose & Crown you will not need to eat all day !!! We also had an evening meal which was amazing with very good quality food. Would highly recommend, can't wait to go back
Went for the quiz night, excellent fun. Also ate there and had a pretty good haddock and chips.
Although the reasons for our one night stay at the Rose and Crown weren't particularly pleasant, the pub itself and the room more than made up for it. The pub is stuffed with atmosphere and character and in a beautiful part of the country. Our room was just charming - in an old quirky part of the building, exposed beams and interesting little nooks and crannies everywhere. Decorated beautifully, simple and clean with all the amenities you could ask for. Our breakfast was delicious and copious - can't comment on the full English experience as we are veggies so we had scrambled eggs and toast and coffee but we loved it all! Owner and all the other staff we encountered were lovely - friendly, polite and helpful. We would definitely recommend :-
Lovely quaint village pub. Sunday roast was good, the cauliflower cheese really made it!
Did the Monday burger night. Here and the burger option where great I went for there breakfast burger and it was lovely. The pub allows dogs in side and out. Only down side was the baby change was in the ladies loo. Staff at the pub where very nice and friendly too
I visited on 31st May with one of my brothers and a cousin from Canada we only met her about 4 weeks ago! My 3 brothers and I all grew up in the village, as did our mother and grandfather. The Rose and Crown was our local. We all moved away from the village on marrying. It was lovely to visit again. The pub looked much the same but with a 'modern' twist. As for the food, we all ordered the chicken caesar wrap.....it was delicious! We all thought it was the best we'd ever tasted. Our cousin has now returned to Canada. We won't wait so long before visiting our old haunt again!
