Romsey and its abbey is truly a hidden gem. I enjoyed the atmosphere a lot. But it was kind of strange to have no high tower on top of the church. But that's no reason to not go there. The inside is really impressive!!!Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
This is an absolutely beautiful building. As soon as we entered The Abbey, we were warmly greeted by the volunteers. They were eager to interact with people and excelled in making people feel welcome. One of the volunteers kindly took the time to explain that she attended university in Canada, namely Montreal and I am touched that she spoke to us. I am a shy person and I really liked the fact that she took an interest. It is the kind of place where one could spend hours reading a book because of the peacefulness of The Abbey and the sound of the organ. There were also drawings of sheep placed throughout the Abbey and I do not know their significance, but it was quite alluring. There was also information on the walls in close proximity to the entrance of The Abbey. It is very well-maintained. Although there is not an entrance fee, there are signs which encourage people to donate. For example, it costs over £1K/ day to maintain The Romsey Abbey. I recommend this place100%.
Impressive old Abbey, full of interesting history. Beautiful surroundings grounds, including a newly planted wildflower meadow. Very friendly volunteers.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
A wonderful welcome from two different people when we entered the church building. The Abbey is very well maintained and is a peaceful place to be. On this occasion our purpose in visiting was to enjoy the stunning wildflower meadow. On a warm Sunday afternoon what a great place to be!
Large parish church and Abbey considering the size of the town. Friendly and informative volunteers, free admission donations appreciated I'm sure. Prior to our visit, I hadn't realised that Earl Mountbatten was buried here. He lived nearby. This formed part of the Romsey Heritage Trail, a free booklet of a circular walk about town, available from the nearby tourist information centre.
A nice, interesting place to visit. Some lovely stained glass windows including one commemorating Florence Nightingale and Earl Mountbatten is buried there.Visited onWeekday
A true gem. Fantastic building built to last unlike horrible new builds. I am a Spiritualist but didn't detect any spirits or ghosts or haunting experience.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo wait
Stunning space. Looks like church from the outside but has the feeling if a cathedral inside. Stunning windows and as has been said very helpful staff and interesting free leaflet style guide. We have tried not to repeat the amazing interior photos.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Great to see devotion to faith captured in one place trough out centuries of existance. Lots of historical details related to area where it serves.Entering inside and looking up the high walls leaves observer in awe and respect. Various building styles present and stained glass depicting scenes from Bible are superb. The whole curch breaths with special feeling.
