A little bit smaller than I expected one room but full of interesting artifacts and information on the roman era. Dog are not allowed, I only add this information as i couldn't find if they where allowed on the internet anywhere and took my dog with me. Super friendly staff a must for any history fans.
Free! Although only a room it can still probably keep you occupied for an hour. The guide is very friendly and there are a few dressing up things for kids and parents to try on. Visitors are a bit thin on the ground so if you're venturing out and a bit nervous of crowds still it could be ideal. Upon that there is a really nice and tranquil memorial garden for firemen close by which also may appeal.
Brilliant little one room museum to Roman finds from Alcester. Completely free, it's a room off the library with volunteers often there to tell you about everything. Coins, silver hoard, statues, perfect bowls and plates, even glassware. The usual fibula and brooches plus a kids dress-up and games area. Well worth popping into.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
I didn't go into the library and museum because it was a school trip I had taken there the town itself it's a lovely place I had a good wander around and it's worth a visit also the roman museum is closed on a Tuesday all day
This is a great museum if your into roman history, it is quite small for a museum, however there is plenty to see, the volunteers are very friendly and knowledgeable, it's free to enter and only open on certain days and times, there are a lot of different items on show that have been found in Alcester, there's quite a few activities for children go join in with, such as jigsaws, quizes and Colouring, dressing up etc, there is a little shop in the main library which is reasonably priced however it is cash only as the library doesn't have a card reader
We visited the museum on a Saturday in February. It was quiet so we had the place to ourselves and took our time. Its a small museum but nicely laid out displaying some great finds and the volunteer was really enthusiastic. Great place for a rainy weekend.Visited onWeekendWait time30–60 minReservation recommendedNo
A small and very informative and friendly museum. Built up and manned by volunteers. All of them knowledgeable and we loved it. Up to date use of videos to show how a dig works with a small site set out. Story telling with a young man from the past who gave his news about the area and the finds and their use. Dressing up, and the only leek seed ever to be found. The Samean ware alone is the most fabulous full pieces . All the finds have been found in and around the town of Alcester. It was a fort and became a thriving market place for the region after the Romans left. There are the many foods we take for granted now that the Romans brought. Hope to go again.
A small but very fascinating 'hands-on' museum operated by volunteers which details the influence the Romans had on Alcester. Especially good for children who can dress up in Roman outfits and play Roman games and puzzles. Equally interesting for adults!
Interesting but not exciting!Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
