Really peaceful place, the parts of the Abbey that Henry the VIII didn't pull down are still impressive, as is the waterway running through it. The staff are welcoming and knowledgeable there is a little gift shop and toilets. The cobblestone road down is quite steep and narrow, passing places are few and there is a small carpark at the bottom. There are free walks around the outside of the Abbey which give good views of it as well. We enjoyed a picnic inside the abbey grounds and the short walk through the woods. But there are longer walks along the river.
Lovely location, nice place to have a wander, but there is very little information on site. Staff didn't offer up much. Cobblestone drive for the last 500m or so down to the site which is fun to navigate in a campervan.
Nice walk around. Worth going a English heritage member, but not sure it's worth paying to enter otherwise. Small gift shop. Would be nicer with a cafe or more info around the actual abbey.
arrived 12:10pm on thursday. the admission fee was £5.60. slightly reduction for senior people. it is free for the members of national heritage. the car park is free. the toilets are clean. the guided tour is only avaiable on saturday and they are planning to extend to sunday. the site is relatively small and the price is a bite dear for small site. for detailed informarion, you need to buy the guide book. do not forget to visit waterfall and the stepping stones, it is only about 15 minutes walk.
Beautiful place, nice and peaceful. Very quiet, just the sound of the stream and wild birds in the forest. If you're passing by, it's definitely worth a visit.
Beautiful abbey. Very obscure, only 1 sign on the road that led here and when you turn its a small arrow that just says "abbey" and points further down the road. You will know you made it because you will be going downhill a stone/cobblestone road, very bumpy and noisy with few passing places. Make sure you have a competent driver. There is a false parking area when you first descend, take an immediate left and there is about 7-10 parking spaces in front of the abbey entrance/cafe. Free walking path around the abbey. Paid entry to get on the grounds, gorgeous and sad to see the ruins. Plenty of park benches for use during your stay, I recommend a solid 75 minutes to take it all in.
Visited on a hot day. Impressive ruins and fascinating history. We found it a tranquil place. Somewhere to sit and gather your thoughts.
Great walk around the abbey. The drive up seems like it leads to nowhere but it will go down into a small carpark. A lovely steam runs through the grounds and would make a nice location for a picnic.
Very peaceful, beautiful and so worth the visit..
Great place to go and see some local history and get plenty of fresh air as well. You can pay a reasonable price to go into the Abbey fully where you can get close up to the ruins and go inside the shop etc and get a leaflet on the Abbey. My wife and I had never been before so decided to walk around one of the many paths which is free. There's a dirt car park as you enter the area and many people park there who aren't paying to go into the actual Abbey. As you can see I managed to take some nice photos as well. I think it took us around an hour to walk right round while stopping off at a couple of the waterfalls and watching some ducklings etc. Definitely a nice little walk if the weather is decent, don't forget to take something to drink. There's also some nice places to have a picnic as well if you do wish. Would recommend.
