I was greatly impressed with the staff & I was very thankful that the reception had a mask for me to use as I was in no fit state to remember to bring my own, the nurse's were all quite amazing and they were always checking if I was OK. The doctor I first saw was called Nathan and he sent me for X-rays and then he explained what they were convinced was wrong with my left shoulder / arm, and what really made Nathan stand out was that when he gave me the prescription for the medication he was prescribing he then took me in a hospital wheelchair to the main entrance of the hospital and explained exactly where I needed to go to get my prescription filled in Once again I have been in A&E and the staff are all fantastic I cannot say enough good things about the staff I had a bit of a scare my lips were swelling and I was finding it difficult to breathe but the great nurses & doctors soon had an idea of what was wrong with me and they kept me in overnight in the respiratory wing of the A&E and the staff were excellent very friendly and they soon had me medicated to counter the oedema and Ivan one of the night nurses made the best cup's of tea I have ever had in A&E and they kept checking on me through the night even when they had other emergencies some quite scary and in the morning they transferred me to another ward in the hospital to keep track of the progress of their medication with my problem I can't think of any other hospital in Greater Manchester that I have ever been to that could be considered anywhere as good
My son had to have an unexpected operation. All the staff are amazing from going into a&e to being on the ward T5 and the Dr who did the op. Medication all sorted out with the times needs to be taken which is a big help. Even went above and beyond when it was discharge day. The community ambulance staff are commendable. Even got us a taxi when he needed to be taken in at first as the ambulance would have been too long. Not their fault.
I'd like to say a massive thank you to the male receptionist who went above and beyond for me whilst visiting yesterday. I couldn't walk due to breaking my foot. This man ran all over the hospital to find me a wheelchair. Made my visit so much more comfortable. Thank you so much your care and compassion was amazing. Regards Tracy
Attended urgent care on 23/12/22 at around 7pm with my mum who had a suspected stroke. She was seen by triage within minutes and a doctor saw to her shortly after to perform an ecg, mri and take bloods. The doctor was kind and I was impressed by how she was being looked after. Then it all went down hill. My mum didn’t get seen to again until 4am. Eight hours after arrival with a suspected stroke. There was only one doctor on the ward as there was a shortage of staff due to sickness. Some of the nurses were passive aggressive, extremely unkind and uncaring. Little updates on wait times. I appreciate the pressure they were under however it’s much harder to be made to wait for hours when you’re incredibly sick. The doctor she saw at 4am was a different one to she had originally seen but he was incredible. Couldn’t rate him highly enough. I will be putting in a complaint regarding the treatment of my mother as I feel she was neglected and put at risk. I’d also be interested to know why a patient who was well enough to be ordering and eating kfc in urgent care was seen before someone with a suspected stroke. Why was a patient allowed to order a takeaway and eat in the waiting room?! I’d also be interested in knowing why patients were made to witness another patient being verbally abusing staff and another physically abusing another patient which put other people at risk, and nothing was done about it. Neither of these people were removed from the waiting room despite security being visible in the hospital and subjected patients to being put at risk as well as distress. To top it off my mum was given a prescription and told by the nurse she had to come back at 9am to get the medication as pharmacy was closing early due to Christmas opening hours and you could only get the medication on prescription. I advised I would have to collect and what was the closing time as obviously I hadn’t slept this was now 10 hours waiting at the hospital during the night to which she replied I would have to be there at 9am. Only the pharmacy was closed at 9am and doesn’t open on Saturdays. So did we get the medicine that you can “only get on prescription”. Yes. Over the counter at Asda for 50p. Why didn’t a nurse know this? Very concerning. This ward needs closing down until it’s fit for purpose
My mum was put into to major A isolation on 25th April the night nurses were absolute embarrassment to the profession had no care or courtesy and to be honest passively aggressive and plain rude. I felt totally helpless and extremely worried for my mums care from the nurse that was on duty. And when I expressed my concerns to a senior nurse called ben, instead of addressing my worry he began to argue and was aggressive, he made me feel even more alarmed. I haven't ever experienced such disgraceful treatment in A&E or any other part of the hospital. I hope no one has to ever endure this kind of disgusting and incompetent behaviour. The nurses ben should be ashamed of themselves. I'm having to regretfully give a 1star rating to the hospital which isn't fair, due to a couple of incompetent nurses. The two nurse in question one of which is ben on the night shift should be disciplined and removed from the establishment. Other than that the hospital overall experience upto now is brilliant. The morning nurses were brilliant, truly a breath of fresh air and very proffessional they gave more care to my mum's needs in one hour than the care that was given by the night nurses in 12hours.
Absolutely shocking placeI had the misfortune to attend with my dad. To say the left hand doesn’t know what the right hand is doing is an understatement. Very poor communication from medical staff. Complete chaos from start to finish then left having to read discharge summary that showed a serious condition was overlooked or ignored. The NHS needs a complete review and overhaul not just more money being thrown at it to spend on the wrong things like more management!!! If this is the NHS now ………forget it
Mixed review about Oldham ward T6 a disgrace. Everyday I was there I had to explain that consultant had said I could eat no communication at all between so called professionals. I had a machine that gave pain relief alarm would be going of for ages in the night no response or they're too busy which wasn't what I observed.. Given wrong medication to go home with after a 7 hour wait. To top it of they had to ring me 5 days after discharge to ask if I had staples or sutures then have the cheek to send a nurse to check has they don't believe you know the difference they had wrong information. Different ward same hospital spot on staff listen and are proactive in your care which goes to show the massive difference between wards
I cannot thank all the staff at this hospital enough. We got to A&E on 03/03/2023 as I was told by my doctor my 7 year old has a suspected appendicitis day before we went fairfield and told them I think it is and they sent us away with a 'stomach bug' despite me addressing my concerns. She got seen straight away and within 3 hours she was having it removed. They discovered it had infact burst, we was in until Tuesday discharged and sent home with antibiotics Wednesday morning she started being sick brought her back and she was put back into the ward next day she had a scan and there was still 3cm of the infection left. The gave her IV antibiotics We are now being discharged again today with a very happy healthy little girl. Throughout our stay nurses and staff were amazing, ensuring we was all okay. The hospital is clean, there is a play room on the ward. Doctors kept us upto date ensured that the second time she was going home she's staying home. Your help is beyond words Thank you.
If you're coming to Oldham hospital you're going to need a compass, enough water to last 3 days, a tent and some spare clothes because it's a Labyrinth and you're going to be walking around for days. Whoever put the signs up was having a laugh. There's building work going on too, so there's lots of paths leading to dead ends. Don't bother asking anyone who works there as they don't know where they are either. When you do reach your destination make sure you ask open questions, as getting any meaningful dialogue will be tricky. Just asking for their opening and closing times is an uphill struggle. My advice would be to just not do anything so that you won't need to visit the hospital.
