I moved onto this yard 10 months ago. Previously my horses had been at home and I was very worried about moving onto a yard. I shouldn't of worried. The yard is friendly and helpful. Hacking is fantastic with lots of off road hacking around the land Hay and straw is included in stable livery and is unlimited. Security is very high. Yard owners are easily to contact. Smaller well kept sick paddocks available if needed. Fields are well kept and rotated regularly. Indoor and outdoor school. Trailer, lorry parking. Really pleased I move on this yard.
Just left this yard after being there for just over 12 months. Moved to a place that isn’t over subscribed. Didn’t want my mare in 6 or 7 acres along with 20 other mares. Too many horses to maintain the ground. Shame really as I loved it when I first moved there.
We moved from this yard in the last couple of months and it has been the best decision we made. Our mare was in a paddock with approximately 18-20 other mares. The paddock 1 of 2 sizes appear to be enough grazing comfortably for 4-6 mares. Our gelding was in a larger paddock 1 of 2 which again was full to the brim, approx 27-30+ geldings, in a paddock appropriate for around 7-10 comfortably as per BHS guidelines of 1-1.5 acres per horse.nThere are pro’s and con’s to every yard and this is our fair review after we have had time to 1 treat both of our horses for mud fever first time they have ever had this from any yard and will definitely be the last and 2 had enough time pass for us to feel we can give a balanced view.nnPositivesnGood social interaction between owners.nChild friendly.nAn indoor school lights payable @ £1 for 30 mins and £10 extra to rent = £120 all innAn outdoor school.nAd lib hay and strawnA smoking shelter with microwave, kettle and sink.nNice hacking around the farm and over the road at Yells Farm.nPlenty of people on hand if needednFree storage for trailers and horse wagons.nnNegatives.nDue to excessive rainfall and possibly too many horses the fields have become poached, full of urine and muck leading to potentially more mud fever than normal.nIndoor school has been flooded the majority of the time through autumn and winter.nOutdoor school is not flood lit and is too deep to ride anyway.nYard owner refers to females on his yard as ‘Slag’ or ‘Slags’.nThe hay and straw, although ad lib, has been mouldy and black at times, therefore unusable at times.nSmoking shelter/shed is not ideal on a no smoking yard where there are horses in wooden stables surrounded by straw and hay.nThe majority of the stables are leaking with holes in the roof that up until we left had not been repaired.nMajority of the fields are barbed wire and electric had often been broken.nFencing has not been ‘great’ leading to a few times where horses have broken free likely due to hunger with their not being enough grass so they’re trying to get to the stuff they can’t reach.n‘Outies’ fields have been trodden into a quagmire around hay rings. See previous posts and photos for details.
My horses, love it here!nRide Farm, as been there home for years.nIts horse heaven, they run free with their horse friends. They never go hungry, and are always looked after by everyone at Ride Farm as a family, of horse lovers.
