Located with views to the river Thames, it’s a great place for dining somewhere a little bit special. I’ll get the negative point out of the way, it can get quite expensive depending on the choice of food relatively small portions but the quality & taste cannot be faulted. Otherwise, the experience was excellent, great service and attentive staff. There are a few window tables which we were lucky to be seated at but can’t be pre-arranged. Lunch menu was quite extensive and there was a special menu during the valentine period. As expected, predominantly seafood based dishes but there were also a couple of steak choices. Overall, recommended for a special occasion and a good dining experience.
My partner and I just had a wonderful meal. Attentive and aware service. We were moved to a riverside table as soon as one was made available. The food was outstanding. We recommend the lemon sole goujons, tuna guacamole, scallops, Indonesian curry and Dover sole. The desserts were divine. Good luck and god bless!
By far my favorite fish and chips in London. All the dishes I've tried here have been exceptional. Great flavors, amazing presentation. The restaurant also has a nice vibe, with great views of the Thames. The staff is always nice and friendly. Vegetarian options: Lots of vegan options Kid-friendliness: Kid friendly with kid meals Parking: Plenty of parking out in front Wheelchair accessibility: Parking lot with walkway for wheelchair. Also outdoor seating. Dietary restrictions: They ask if you have any allergies or dietary restrictions
Like other Rick Stein restaurants, this one is situated by water, in this case a quiet bend in the Thames, a few minutes walk from Barnes Bridge station beware precipitous stairs to exit. It is part of a group of interesting buildings which have been converted. This does mean that the opportunity for river views are limited to a relatively small number of the tables. We ordered champagne cocktails which took a while to arrive and, served at room temperature, were perhaps not as nice as they should have been. Indeed temperature proved to be an enduring feature of the meal. My soup was just acceptable but a few degrees more would have been nicer. Unusually it was not served with, nor was I offered, any bread. However, my wife's Puy Bhaji was supplied with a rye bread which bore the marks of having been previously frozen but not yet reaching room temperature, let alone being warmed. Our main courses were cod fishcake and salmon. The salmon was enjoyed but my fishcake seemed more potato than cod. Again, the food was served on cool plates. Service was generally friendly but at a restaurant of this type and, with only two at the table, I would have expected the staff to offer the right dish to the right person without question. The sweets and coffee were fine if not particularly memorable. Overall, a bit of a disappointment.
Came here for my mum's birthday, the food was excellent to be fair if not a little pricey. You are paying for the name. We ordered the tuna tartare and some oysters to start. Then the fish and chips and Hake dish for a main. I would recommend both mains but the tuna tartar was nothing special. The service is great! Went out if their way to make the our experience special.
Nice lunch at Stein’s in Barnes. Lemon sole was delicious and light - loved the puff pasty fleurons! Generous portion of fish and chips and the batter tasted lovely almost cake like. For desserts, the raspberry frangipane tart with vanilla ice cream and a sticky toffee pudding with clotted cream went down a treat .Recommended dishesFish and Chips, Sticky Toffee Pudding
We enjoyed our 15th wedding anniversary here today. Fantastic venue in the river. The food was everything we hoped. Wonderful food but reasonably priced. We were very pleased. To top it all off, the team were very attentive and very friendly.
Great restaurant, went for lunch with 6/7 of us - the food was in general superb and the service was very professional. Would perhaps say that a few side dishes/appetisers weren't of any real quality padron peppers too hard, tomato/onion side remarkably basic and tasteless, bread pretty average, but when it came to the mains and the starts the monkfish and sole both pictured that most of us had was exceptional. Lovely setting sitting virtually on the water, and a very well presented interior/exterior. It's expensive, but you knew that coming in - the wine wasn't a rip off which felt a nice touch.
We were recently celebrating our anniversary and sons birthday at Rick Stein Barnes. It was an amazing dinner. My son has a long list of severe food allergies and its not always safe for us to eat out but here at Rick Stein staff is extremely careful with food orders re allergies. They took care of everything. Restaurant manager Sebastian was looking after us and all went well. Food was delicious, great atmosphere too and a riverside view is stunning . Definitely recommend and definitely will return for a great family meal .
Beautiful location with a great private car park. Very professional, helpful and friendly waiters. Amazing riiverside view from our table as with most of the seating there. Top class Tartare Sauce. I would return just for that. Perfectly cooked Grilled Miso Salmon with Noodles. Autographed copies of Rick and Jack Steins' books available to buy on location and a Chocolate Pave with Salted Caramel Ice-cream to die for! Everything you could possibly hope for. Very clean and comfortable. We highly recommend this restaurant. Well done Rick!
