Good location and very friendly and welcoming staff. Lovely chips but we found the onion rings extremely greasy and tasteless I wasn't a huge fan of the curry sauce either as it wasn't anywhere as punchy as I would have thought it would have been. I had the halloumi burger which was good and my partner enjoyed the lemon sole which there was a healthy portion of. They are also dog friendly which was great for us to be able to enjoy a meal while our pooch rested on the floor.
Everywhere else in Newquay was fully booked on Saturday night so we decided to try Ricks instead, it was empty , only two other tables with people on . Seemed strange until we experienced the terrible service , no one came to take our order despite not being busy ,the girl behind the bar consistently avoided all eye contact from customers trying to get her attention, other members of staff coming and going from the kitchen seemed unaware of how long customers had been waiting and went to tables who had only just arrived ignoring us who had been waiting to give our order. In the end we gave up and ordered through the app. Food and drinks arrived in good time after ordering and the cod curry was delicious. Hubby had the grilled cod which was tasty if a little dry , he was thankful for some curry sauce to pour over it .Other customers arriving after us were having the same difficulties trying to get served . Such a shame as could be a great place . Parking: Plenty of parking, pay at machine or by phone , free after 6.30 pm , height restriction in place 2.2 m
I was sceptical of this place, until my food arrived! Absolutely beautiful food, I have not tasted Fish an Chips quite like it and that’s seriously!!! No grease just great food worth every Penny in my opinion as it’s fairly expensive the views are incredible across Fistral beach. Staff also super friendly and helpful. We shall be back
I was really pleased to find somewhere that does gluten free fish and chips. I had the cod bites and my husband had the lemon sole, both gluten free. Tasty fish and not greasy. Chips were a bit anemic in colour but were crispy. Curry sauce nice but lighter than I expected, not like chip shop curry sauce. We were there early Thursday eve and the place was full of screaming kids and mostly well-behaved dogs. Great for sandy covered families but I probably wouldn’t bother again as a couple.
Good food, but very pricy. It didnt really taste any different from a local fish and chip shop. Friendly staff, and lovely location. Shame about the horrible weather we had.Recommended dishesFish and Chips, And Chips, Chip
Stopped by for lunch, and couldn’t fault it! Staff were really accommodating, and the food was delicious. Fresh fish, perfectly cooked chips, and a view of Fistral Beach. We’ll be back!
The food lives up to the legend that is Rick Stein. The battered cod was very fresh and the chips were perfection. The people who worked there were very helpful and kind and service was quick too. The views from the restaurant of the sea were spectacular. The only thing we didn't get to see was the man himself Rick Stein. All in all great place to go whilst on holiday here.
Shown to our seat by seemingly indifferent helper. It seemed like a spit and sawdust kind of place. Noted it was very dog-friendly. Tried to order, via WiFi, at the table but didn't prove to be that simple. Had an aperol spritz, which came in a small wine glass. Not good value at £8.95. The food came in round paper 'plates' that reminded me of the death-defying motorcycle rides at the circus. The food Pad Thai and Nasi Goreng was OK. Watching the sunset was the best part of the dinner.
Outstandingly unpretentious delicious fish and chips. I had grilled haddock with chips and the spinach salad. My partner had the same. The fish fell apart and was cooked really well. The service was swift and courteous. Connor Conor? and the team did a great job. And Fistral beach. The surf. Amazing I'm not a surfer but it looks like fun.
We walked to the restaurant but worth noting if you plan to drive the car park is pay and display until midnight. We were seated very quickly around 6.30pm. The app for ordering was not working and we had to wait around 20 minutes for staff to come over. There was a shortage of soft drinks and the only ones left were warm and flat. Two fizzy fruit juice cans came to £6 which is quite a markup! There was also a rather large charge for a small pot of tartare sauce which can be seen in the photos. A 55 minute wait for food despite seeing numerous takeaway customers enter then leave was very irritating considering the number of fish and chip shops close by who serve within minutes. Below in the photos is a picture of the bun a burger was served in. The description claimed a glazed bun but it appeared more like a dry pre sliced bun you'd get in a multipack. The 2 stars and the bonus were that the kids portion size were ample and reasonably priced. Above our table was a photo of some ladies at the beach with their tops off, rather disturbingly this also included a young girl. Overall a disappointing experience, if you're desperate for Rick Stein I'd recommend takeaway if you want fish and chips I'd recommend any of the other shops in Fistral and Newquay for a tastier, quicker and better value for money experience. Parking: Parking is on site but is a pay and display car park.
