Beautiful working Flour mill with 4 floors of great history and information about the workings of the mill. Set in beautiful countryside with the beautiful watermill and see the diesel pump across the water that make the electricity for the mill. Amazing breads I bought corn bread and pumpkin bread only for £4. Great picnic seating area outside too.
Excellent bread making course with Steve. A thoroughly enjoyable day and a box of products made on the course to take home, not to mention a lovely hessian bag and other goodies. If you are looking to improve your skills, start a new hobby, or give a gift of a course to someone else then look no further. Highly recommended. Products available to purchase to take home, now I have a sack of organic flour to use, can't wait!
Mill extremely interesting. Information clear & well laid out. Friendly staff. Didn't buy any bread so cannot comment on it. Local walks too.
Fresh bread which is clearly prepared with love and passion Staff is so friendly and nice
Truly takes you back in time ⏳ it's nice to see how things used to work in the past. The bread and pastry from the bakery are great
Watermill fabulous & so is the bakery gr8 for walking the dog
Visited one rainy Sunday and it was amazing to see the mill running. They provided plastic covers for my muddy boots so I could explore the mill. You could easily spend a hour or two here if you like this kind of thing. Lots of detailed information on displayed. The bread we bought was delicious and all the more so knowing it had been sourced and produced within a mile of the mill.
I loved the fact that the old ways of making bread are being preserved and visible for others, especially younger ones to see and appreciate. A lot to learn here with very helpful volunteers to answer any questions visitors may have. A very useful typed, laminated A4 information sheet was available on arrival just inside the shop. I bought fresh, organic wholesome breads and cakes to give to family and friends. Definitely could taste the difference compared with shop bought varieties!
Nice place to escape on a Saturday afternoon for a tea and some biscuits or to buy some freshly baked bread. This place has also a little "museum" about the past history and the role this watermill had within the local community. Outside the building, crossed the river, there is a very old but still functional oil engine, which power up the mill. It was interesting to understand that back in time, when there were some power cuts, this engine alone was able to power up the St Albans area.
Lovely place to visit and great bread Lots of history
