The best Indian around. Food is out of this world and the staff are awesome. Would highly recommend this place to anyone
Fantastic food. The whole set up is a little disjointed but the food more than makes up for it - we'll definitely be going back!
This is my old local from my farming days. not been there for about 30 years or more. I was recommended it for a sunday lunch so i took my mother there as everywhere else was booked up. we went there as a party of three. We ordered a beef, lamb and pork sunday lunch. If my mother loved it, it must have been good. An excellent round of steamed veg, fresh workshire pudding and thick slices of meat with a thick tasty gravy. Two weeks later, i am on my own and feeling hungry, i called in for a meal for one. Again, all the food was fresh, tasty and plentyful. I had the roast beef and for £12, this is ultimately the best. I was tempted to do a toby carvery en-route but for the same price nearly, the red lion produces a far better and superior product that Toby. I highly recommend this for the sunday roast. the meal is alot bigger than the other local pubs, far tastier and more quantity,
This place is out of the way in a county village. It's a pub, with an indian restaurant insinuate. The food is tasty ,but service is to be desired if in a large group. Food takes a while to come out. Be prepared to wait a while.
According to Google, open hours are 1-11:30pm everyday. Despite a big sign outside saying bar open, it was most certainly closed at 3:30pm on a Tuesday. Misleading and disappointing.
I popped in here for a Sunday lunch as I saw it was open again and serving roast dinner. Let me tell you this - it is not a generic Sunday roast like the other cheap establishment known for its roasts. I decided just to have the basic mixed roast for £10.00. You can tell its all made fresh on the day. The yorkshire pudding was still warm from the oven, perfectly done. Roasties with a hint of rosemary, boiled baby potatoes, honey glazed parsnip, kale, sugarsnap peas, regular peas and the most unbelievable buttersweet carrots. Gravy was served on the side and you can taste this is not made from granules. Amazing value and amazing taste. I gave in and tried the Red Lion Malva Sponge for dessert, mindblowing!! Hints of apricot and ginger in a decadently sweet light sponge with some pouring cream on the side. Exceptional taste for only £3.00 You cannot go wrong by trying this out, it is worth more than the unbelievable low price!
Just had a superb Indian at the Red Lion Pendoylan. Each dish was amazing and seasoned to perfection. We waited longer between courses than in other local Indian restaurants but only because everything is freshly prepared - you can taste the difference. The staff were attentive, the lady behind the bar was charming. The prices are very reasonable and drinks were very inexpensive. This restaurant really deserves to do well, we will definitely be back.
Fantastic Pub as I was there over the jubilee weekend. Had a variation of acts on and the food was amazing
Sadly a very disappointing visit. Having lived locally ever since childhood I decided to treat my husband to a meal in the restaurant for his 50th birthday. On arrival we were not allowed to eat in the restaurant as it had been booked out by a private function and were ushered into the bar area to eat. The tables were dirty & sticky and the radio played loudly throughout our visit which made quiet conversation impossible. Other guests also complained about the loud radio but it was not turned down - so the ambiance was not ideal. When the tables were set the cutlery was dirty, faded and scratched, again not ideal but something that we tried to ignore. When our drinks arrived my Diet Coke was flat and so was my husbands pint of larger - we did complain about this - but when the drink was replaced it was also flat so we didn’t have a drink with our meals, but we didn’t bother to ask again as I’m sure we would have had another flat drink served to us so we just left them on the table untouched. When the plates arrived before the food they were both very dirty and covered in oil and grease so we asked for more plates, these were also dirty. Our food then arrived while we waited for more replacement plates, when they arrived they were also dirty. I took the replacement plates to the bar and asked for clean plates to put our food on and when they arrived they were also dirty and had sticky, gooey stuff on the rim, it was very off putting. We called the waiter over again and showed him the plates - and my husband gently rubbed some of the oil stains with his white napkin to show the waiter how dirty they were and there were yellow oil marks straight away on his napkin- after asking for a fourth set of plates still not clean when they arrived we decided just to eat as our food was sitting on the table and was quickly going cold. The food was tasty but the serving dishes were also dirty, grubby and oil stained and the tables where other guests had left were not cleaned or cleared. The guests on the table next to us moved seats as their original seating area was so dirty and sticky too. We couldn’t eat the whole meal as the radio noise was dreadful - so we asked for the food to be bagged to go - which was most of our meals only to find when it had been bagged to go most had been thrown away by the staff and only two tiny trays of rice had been bagged for us. We paid, spoke to a member of the bar staff about how disappointed we were with the whole experience and we left - totally deflated that our imagined romantic Indian meal in a beautiful restaurant for my husbands 50th birthday was ruined. Instead we paid the same money to sit in a noisy bar, with dirty tables and cutlery , were served flat drinks twice, had to ask for our dirty plates to be changed 4 times before we gave up as our food was getting cold and when we felt so uncomfortable that we wanted to leave only a portion of our food was bagged to go. For this we paid in full and got a shrug and apology off the guy serving behind the bar. Sadly I cannot recommend this restaurant - it rounded off an otherwise lovely 50th birthday with a very disappointing and unhygienic restaurant visit.
Absolutely delicious curry and everything cooked fresh to perfection! 5* highly recommended
