We tend to eat roast dinners out quite often and as we were passing through, thought we’d try the Red Lion. The pub was empty but we had checked Google reviews and they were ok from a couple of months ago. We ordered our drinks and I got the wrong drink but let it go as didn’t mind the drink I received. We ordered 2 adult roasts and a child’s one. When they came I asked if my son’s was a child’s and she snapped at me that I hadn’t asked for a child’s one she later apologised when checking if all was ok when I told her I found her rude. Nothing on the plate tasted fresh and our 6 year old told her the potatoes weren’t fresh but she guaranteed that they were cooked this morning. We ate up quickly what was edible and got out and paid for a child’s meal instead of an adult as she seemed to think this was our only issue. We also said how we had 18 carrots and a lots of cauliflower and broccoli cheese me and my son don’t eat cheese to share between us. This is just our opinion of course. This is such a shame as it is a lovely pub in a lovely little town.
We had a superb bacon roll, with crispy tasty bacon in a soft roll and a perfect mug of tea on Saturday morning after our dog walk. The landlord and the chef were very welcoming and funny. We'll definitely be returning. Highly recommend.
Just Wow Popped in today Christmas Eve just before end of service, the welcome we received, with 2 sandy dogs in tow was only seconded by the amazing food! Thank you to the outstanding chef and the warmest of hosts. 100% deserve 5 stars!
Loved this place, the waitress was so friendly and the landlord very helpful. Great dog friendly pub and the biggest pot of tea ever
Had a few pints here in the last week and service great, always welcomed. Lovely little dog that wanders the bar looking for belly rubs!. Had an evening meal and everything as you'd hope! Pretty typical pub food, well presented and catered for any special requests from the kids
The cheese board & a variety of other desserts. A great way to finish off an excellent meal & some fine real ales... thank you to the Red Lion's landlord & staff tonight, our family & friends party of eight had a fabulous evening.
We went for Sunday lunch today - 3 adults and 2 children - we all had different types of roast lamb chicken, beef and nut and all were very tasty and very generous portions, particularly in terms of the meats, which were all very good quality. Our children had the half size portions which they liked, our eldest very rarely finishes a Sunday roast but said it was lovely and ate the lot! The staff were very friendly and accommodating and were able to fit us in at short notice. I would highly recommend this pub for a family lunch/Sunday roast.
Nice pub food friendly staff good night out
On arrival at the pub we were greeted at the bar by a member of staff who included our daughter in the conversation and immediately organised her a drink big deal for our 3yr old. Staff were friendly and attentive. Food was tasty and thoroughly enjoyed . Would definitely recommend and will be back ourselves.
Lovely Sunday lunch here fresh, hot & plentiful, so much so we could not manage a pud! Friendly staff who managed to accommodate us as we had not booked! Will return.
