It's a good and well run pub with a good selection of beers...how pubs use to be, friendly with a nice atmosphere, we've always had a pleasant time when we've come down from Manchester to see family.
This is an excellent pub. It has an adjoining Pizza place, but also allows customers to order food from local takeaways, even providing plates/cutlery to use. A good choice of real ales is available.

We started our witch walk by eating our takeaway fish and chips at this very charming and historical old pub in Manningtree. We enjoyed reading the paragraph about The Red Lion from The Manningtree Withces by A K Blakemore there.
