Great place to relax with a book or magazine that are pretty well stocked; printing and computer work support is superb. Helpful staff! Love the place.

Good library ruined by awful human beings. I had only been visiting this place for a weeks but in this time: - I've had a teenager sitting at the desk next to me watching pornography on their phone and masturbating (I was staring at him trying to figure out what he was doing; only when he climaxed did the horrible truth reveal itself). - I've been verbally abused for coughing by an absolutely deranged woman. - I've seen someone physically attack + scream at their laptop over the course of HOURS. Avoid this place if possible. Besides the obvious problem of noisy guests, there's something about Reading Central Library that attracts the absolute dregs of society, and until the library takes the issue seriously (anonymous online reporting? Actually having at least one employee on each floor I can refer to when something horrible happens?), it will continue to be a degenerate hole. I have fond memories of coming here as a child with my parents, but it's now a sullied, awful place occupied by a sizeable number of absolutely awful people. Well, that creepy woman attacking me was the last straw: I will never come back here ever again. AVOID. EDIT: Since I can't directly respond to the reply I received: The fact that there are no bins in the toilets is the most succinct summation of all that is wrong with Reading Central Library. The librarians are fighting an uphill, unwinnable battle, and they have my sympathies. It's not your fault that this country doesn't take mental health care seriously. Still, I'll never go back.

Staffs are very friendly, but my experience is ruined by the behaviour of library guests. Some people put on very loud ringtones (enough for half a floor to hear), a guy even put on speaker while he was trying to make a call. Some groups of people were chatting, even when they tried to lower their voice the harmony of their voice were still quite distracting. There is a clear sign in quiet rooms asking guests not to use mobile phone, but I can hear the two rooms next to me making phone call and playing music (yes, someone didn't even bother using headphone). Finally, the quiet room is not closed or soundproof at all, so you can hear pretty much everything outside on top of what your 'neighbors' are playing on their 'background' music. I was there for a week so this can't be an one-off thing. Overall I'm quite surprised how this library managed to attract these guests.

the library kind of saved my msc courses as I often fled from home chaos and studied there. Really liked the quiet zone of study. But some days it only opens until 5. It really should keep open till 7 in the weekdays.
