On the whole, a clean and tidy rail station. There is a staffed ticket office for enquiries until the early afternoon. A great little kiosk offering hot and cold snacks and drinks. Ramped access to both platforms available. Platform 1 ramp is under the rail tunnel and brings you up round the back of the station.
It's so great to have a station in Romsey and pretty good links to Southampton, Salisbury, and beyond. We are so lucky. Recently a new coffee/sandwich shop opened on platform two, and it's brilliant! It boasts of the best coffee in Romsey and I think they may be correct. Good access for those with mobility issues, a no step to platform 2 and a ramp to platform 1. If you are okay to take steps then there is a short but smelly tunnel between platforms. One indoor waiting room on each platform but only available when the ticket office is open, same with the toilets. This leads me to this stations only issue in my opinion. I'm not a complainer by nature, well to my partner maybe, but I have to say the woman who works in the ticket office is a challenge to me. She has, on a number of occasions, sold me tickets at a higher price I can get at the machine, and she gets very rude very quickly! My advice is, if you can, use the machine. I hate doing so as I feel we should have staff to assist us but sadly I head to the machine first in Romsey. I'm sure she is a lovely person really and maybe people annoy her and I get her too late in the day, and maybe I am just an annoying person, but heed my advice and at least know what you should be charged ahead.
Small town station, not much to see do or eat as far as I can tell but no major beef really, decent enough link between southleigh and trains towards Bristol etc
I use this station on a regular basis. Today, Paul and Hilda showed incredible customer service, Outstanding professionalism, Customer Care and unquestionable understanding. My daughter is now home safe with her mum and dad, after an unfortunate anxiety wobble. Thank you to the outstanding care shown by Hilda and Paul. I thank you both.
trains to Southampton, Portsmouth, Bristol, Bath, Cardiff, and stopping local services between Southampton and Salisbury
Pretty much the same as most local train stations in the uk. It gets you from A-Z and that’s about it.
Never had such a palling and unwelcoming service in my life. My train was ridiculously late which made me miss my bus back home, which made an extremely bad day even worse, so I went to the ticket station to see the next bus times or if there was a quicker way to get home and was waiting for about 10 minutes and nobody showed up. I then went to call my family to see about getting a lift when a woman came in and asked what I was doing. I was clearly very upset and I just said to her that I was just sorting something out with my family in which she responded “well get out of here then”. Ive never had such vile service in my life
A lovely place to visit. There are plenty of shops and places to eat. It's an old market town and there are still a couple of Tudor buildings standing the Tudor Rose pub and Prezzos. If, like me, you enjoy needlework, the Green Hill haberdashery is well worth a visit.
Has been my local station for as long as I can remember and although it has improved a lot, improvements could still be made. The ticket machine is often out of service and as train staff leave early, that can leave you stuck. The toilets are also locked early. A ticket machine on both platforms would be nice but at least the current one has contactless now!
Train staff goes home super early, even though busy times are around 4/5/6/7pm, the only coffee/food place is not open most of the afternoon and toilets get locked really early too. This is right next to the industrial estate where people work until late incluing a 24/7 call centre and yet main functions are never available at certain hours
