It had been a number of years since our last visit and we also visited on a Gala weekend so we weren't disappointed. Plenty of locos in steam and lots of services, no extra cost either despite the special weekend, so plenty to see and do for everyone. Beautifully kept engines, rolling stock and stations. Glorious day out amid beautiful scenery and reasonably priced as well.
My family and I arrived for the last journey of the day. The man at the ticket office sold us a carriage for just us at no extra cost. We just signed up for gift aid. We were taken to our carriage and sat down. All the staff were brilliant, smiling happy to talk and answer questions about the train . We departed on time with whistles and toots . The full journey was about two and a half hours , there and back. If we had have taken a earlier one in the day we could have got off at one of the stops and taken a walk around the area and as dogs are allowed I would probably do this in the future. We did get off at one stop for a coffee. Don't forget to use your drinks voucher you get when buying tickets. It's well worth a visit. We had a great time
Had a lovely day here, brought tickets for the full train route round. There's options where you can hop on and hop off if you wish to do walks during the day. They have a small museum which was great to look round at the end of the day.Visited onPublic holidayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
Great railway and museum at Tywyn. The volunteers are really helpful and friendly. Lovely ride up and down the line with information telling you about the walks you can do around the train timetable. Well worth multiple visits.
Brilliant day out. We had good weather and enjoyed a train ride out to the end of the line. Facilities are very good, well stocked cafe's with good selection of food & drink and a gift shop. Friendly, helpful & knowledgeable staff. First rate museum dedicated to the narrow gauge railways. Well worth the visit especially if you're interested in the history and engineering. Amazing day out on the narrow gauge railway, would highly recommend a visit. The little engine takes you on a fantastic trip through the snowdonia national park, with beautiful scenery, wildlife and little stations along the way. Each station can provide a great opportunity to go for a walk around the area and get the next train back. We went for the afternoon tea at the little cafe on the station. We booked in advance, which meant it was set out for us when we arrived on the platform. They put on a great spread, plenty to eat and all very tasty. We didn't give ourselves very long to eat it but we're allowed to take the rest home in a doggy bag. Or snack for the train ride back. Staff/volunteers throughout were great, very attentive friendly and welcoming. They take pride and love what they do.
What an amazing little place! We arrived early and visited the cafe for breakfast - it was the best cooked breakfast we have ever had! Huge portion, boiling hot - we would go back just for that! The train journey is just lovely! Lovely cafe at the other end! We were lucky enough to have a compartment to ourselves - which was a bonus! Every member of staff that we came across was just brilliant! Everyone was so helpful!
Visited here last week while stopping nearby for a short break. Nice trip up the valley on a narrow gauge steam train. Trip is approximately 1 hour each way. We did not book ahead but would suggest booking as it was quite busy the day we went. Called into the Station Cafe on our return. Lots of Gluten Free options on the menu, and really good quality. Also do a GF cooked breakfasts.
Absolutely loved every minute of our time here, the scenery stunning, the staff amazing, the train trip was such a joyful and wonderful journey. A must visit and take do the pioneer journey/trip if you can. Thank you will definitely return. XO Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
A beautiful preserved heritage railway. A proper entrance and ticket hall adjacent to the shop and cafe. We had a fabulous ride through the countryside. The seats were a little uncomfortable.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
