As a 'club' it's a very good asset and open at weekends and Bank Holidays for the 'general public' to try out 'Trial Lessons' Air Experience Flights and Club member flying although being a military club, non-service/civilian members are limited by rules set by the RAF and MoD, not the club itself.nMost Trial Lessons are around 20 mins for either a single 2000foot Aerotow or x2 winch launches to around 900-1000feet, although other options are availible with advance notice.nnFantastic flat and well looked after airfield, with great links to the Ridge soaring opportunities on to the Chilterns and beyond frequent 300kms taskings are achieved by the seasoned and experienced pilots and sometimes the odd 750km task when conditions are perfect.nnInstruction itself is free, as all instructors are fully qualified and checked by the British Gliding Association BGA, but do not get paid for their service. This keeps the cost of trial flights down well below that of similar 'professional' paid up club's like Dunstable or Lasham.nnUnfortunately unsure of how much longer the club will be here, due to the imminent closure of RAF Halton due in 2022 and the airfield around 2019ish
A great place to try gliding for the first time. They do brilliant work supporting military folk to get flying all for a reasonable price. The people who run it are lovely and they have a range of aircraft.
I was a member of this club in 1986 during my stay in UK, it was really exciting and fan, it has been more than 35 years since that time.nI am just wondering about the chines restaurant which was located on the way from the RAF Halton to Wendover, is it still there?nwe used to buy chicken and chips and rice.
I used to be there 1982 to 1985 as a kid I used to do lights on the old double decker bus and would get a free flight at the end of the day loved it
Good Club you can get trial lessons here.
