I have been hesitant to share my perspective on QMC, but I believe that by shedding light on the issues I encountered, I can contribute to the colleges improvements and student protection My time at the college was unpleasant and disappointing. They did not meet my expectations for a safe and supportive environment. I faced communication issues, a lack of staff support, and an unsupportive attitude. My motivation and enthusiasm for learning declined, and I struggled to stay focused. They did not provide a good environment for growth. I had a very alarming experience with a Student Support Assistant, highlighting the need for greater oversight and accountability, I made a formal allegation about the disrespect and neglect I experienced. As an SEN student under an EHCP and Foundation Learning, advocating for myself was challenging. The Head of Foundation Learning was dismissive and forced me into tears, claiming she spoke to several people and said the SSA was one of their best. If the Head of Department was so sure the SSA was innocent, why did she resign just weeks after my allegation to work at another college? I discovered that the SSA's mother also worked at the college as an SSA. What example does that set for students? A concern I had with the SSA is that, despite completing A-Level music, her background doesn’t align with the typical qualifications for a Learning Support Assistant, a course in childcare would be more beneficial; She lacked experience in SEN, and while gaining relevant experience can be tough, she could have proactively sought opportunities at local schools or nurseries Furthermore, she wasn’t shadowed during her initial weeks, which is standard for such roles. It was concerning that, just a few weeks into her position, she was already taking me to meet the Student Union. The day after my allegation, the class was informed that the SSA had undertaken training in other departments, such as English and Health and Social Care. Looking back, this felt more like a reward than the appropriate response of suspension pending further investigation. Given that she was 19 and we were around 16, the close age gap raises concerns about the appropriateness of her role. I was told by my soon-to-be tutor that "this was not the year to lead the SU." He pulled me out, assuring me he would help next time, but he resigned in December 2022, breaking that promise. It felt as though the college feared my potential influence as a leader might expose the truth to the governors. I’m not okay with all what happened, and I don’t think anyone else should have to go through the same thing either. We need to ensure that all students are protected and respected, and that their rights are upheld. This should never happen, and it makes me worried about the safety and well-being of other students. The emotional toll of these experiences cannot be overstated; they have left me feeling deeply wounded and betrayed. Despite my exemplary behaviour, unwavering effort in my work, and active participation in the Student Union, I find myself grappling with the aftermath of this mistreatment. If the staff had a problem with me or if they expressed how they felt, including if they wanted me gone over the allegation, I would have definitely listened. And if they asked me to leave, I would have been open to discussing their concerns and considering any recommendations they had. But they never bothered and allowed me to suffer each day in misery. Towards the end of school, the Parent Liaison rang me. She told me not to go to QMC, saying "you're too good for QMC" Looking back, I wish I had listened. Sometimes, I blame myself for not heeding her advice. I play the "what if game' sometimes wondering how things may of been different if I had listened. To others who have been silenced, remember that staying quiet only perpetuates the pain. A history of silence doesn't serve you well; the ones who caused harm have gained an undeserved victory. I urge you to stand up, fight back, and raise your voice. It's time to reclaim your victory!
Thanks to the foundation learning department my daughters Becky support and help for pass 5 years of college education xx
Poor accessibility. They allow teams to play football on the Astro turf but make you walk all the way round to access it. There is a car park not 30 feet but you can’t use it even if you are disabled. I asked to park closer to take my son to the pitch and I was told they weren’t allowed to open the gate. So I had to send my son through on his own. This also meant I wasn’t able to pick him up either. Why have the car park when it can not be accessed behind a barrier.
Great facilities and activities her but sadly, due to a local council enforcement and thanks to good doers neighbours, the main car park for football pitch is closed.
I had been to Queen Mary's for an evening session of badminton, I would say the facility is very nicely maintained and has a range of activities, only thing I observed was unlike other facilities where they have a 60 minute time limit Queen Mary's has a 45 minute time limit, and they make sure they end the session almost 2 minutes prior to the end of the session . Other than that it's a beautifully maintained facility
Always a great experience at QMC. Friendly, professional and helpful staff, and we swim here all the time. Daughter had a sports birthday party here a few weeks ago, and could not fault it. She has lots of fun, and we felt it was great value for money. Our sports host was great eitn all the kids too.
Friendly staff. Good facilities. Clean and tidy. Gym has cleaning materials for wiping down equipment after use; shame a few don't. Only negative is a very very small cohort of rude students.
A good place to study if you want an all experience of multi cultures and good peeps from all walks of life. :D Extremism and bullying is a non-no here so if you are a shy and quiet type , its a perfect place to study in peace with no stress. I studied there too.
Great college. Staff were really supportive and it’s a nice environment to be in.
Went with my daughter to enroll. Good social distancing and all the staff were very helpful. Got through it all in about 30 minutes.
