Brilliant Day out with lots to see. This is especially good if you are a National Trust member otherwise you will have to pay the entry costs. The Gardens are the main attraction especially on a dry day. However there are lots more to see in the castle so also a good day out if it's rainingVisited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Visited here during half term, they had a pumpkin trail around the garden. Plenty of fun/scary Halloween surprises around the trail. Went in the castle which was very nice. Yes,it is kept quite dark but that's to protect all the wonderful fabrics/tapestries and artwork. So many rooms you can go in really gives a scale of the building. Enjoyed our visit.
This is an absolutely fantastic place, The architecture, the beauty of the place and the gardens are absolutely stunning. The size of the place! It's huge and the grounds are extensive! We had an amazing day at a very reasonable price. The only downside was that we ate in the main cafe which was a very big disappointment. The food had to be sent back several times and they'd even missed bringing us another dish. That wasn't to dampen the beauty of the place though.
Fantastic castle and grounds. Great place to spend a few hours. Came for Easter egg-hunt and trail. Volunteers very helpful and informative. Loved the gardens , beautiful flowers and sculpted hedges and trees. Lots of different areas to explore.
Lovely day out. Very impressive house and gardens. Fantastic views and the gardens where in full bloom and a riot of colour. Glad we travelled out to see the place. Well worth it if you're in the area. Friendly and knowledgeable staff/volunteers. Excellent tea room with high quality home made food. The Peacock stalking the grounds is partial to cake and scones and doesn't always wait to be invited to tea!
One of my favourite National Trust places. As soon as you catch sight of this striking red stone building, you know you're in for a great day. The house is of course, a fascinating place to explore, rich in family history, architecture and decor, but for me, the stunning gardens are worth the entry alone. Wind your way down across beautifully-kept terraces carefully planted with year-round interest, take in the orchard, and pass ancient oaks as you wind your way through the picturesque grounds, to be rewarded with memorable views of the terraces and castle.
Excellent place to visit with large gardens, a castle and museum to enjoy. The views over the valley are stunning we were very lucky with some brilliant weather and the plants that were starting to bloom were excellent if you are interested in gardens. The route to the fountain at the lower tier of the garden is via steps or a flat path, so accessible for all. Seeing everything definitely got our 10k steps in.
We visited this place today. It was amazing well worth the visit the garden and views are stunning. That castle and museum are really interesting. The cafe serves excellent for and drinks and the staff are very friendly and informative. A great place to take the family.
What a beautiful day we had. The weather made the garden feel like we were in a European Palace. So well kept and maintained. The volunteers are knowledgeable, polite and friendly. So much garden to walk around and the castle has a lot of history to digest. Disappointed though when going to the restaurant for something substantial to eat and only soup, sandwiches or cake on offer. Although the rhubarb flapjack was very moist and delicious I lovely day spent here and will be coming back, when we can bring our dog too.
The gardens are amazing in range and layout, the terraced beds and artwork had lots of surprises with souvj to take in and needs a couple of hours or more. The house has lots of history, the artwork on the walls and ceiling was overwhelming but limited by the amount of light allowed. My main disappointment was we could not take photographs inside the castle and the tearooms were very limited in space and range. That said it was a very enjoyable visit.
