Absolutely fantastic food and service. Such a lovely pub. Well priced for such amazing and rich food. Lacked a little atmosphere on a Friday lunch time in the back area though. Great service too, everyone was really friendly and welcoming. We will come back very regularly, nothing more to want from a pub!
Absolutely fabulous staff, delicious food, charming spot - only minus one star as it is not cheap! But honestly the service here is second to none and the food sublime. We were looked after beautifully at lunch today by a really charming woman who couldn't have been kinder to us. The venison steak was perfect, as was the veggie pie, and the staff set the tone in the pub for a really relaxing, friendly, happy atmosphere. Worth sitting in roadworks on the M4 for!
Went for Sunday Roast. Superb. Portion size is excellent and the cost is exceptional value. Each roast is a sharer so every serving is effectively a freshly cooked joint and the cooking and produce are excellent. The desserts are great. We came here from London as our friends live nearby and I am gutted this place isn’t closer to home. Thoroughly recommend and will definitely be back
Cosy pub with brilliant service and great food. I enjoyed the mulligatawny soup made with venison and not chicken. The chef is clearly creative and knows how to work ingredients. The forest pie was delicious but the profiterole at the end was probably the best dessert I've ever enjoyed!! Hope to visit again very soon and enjoy the local walk too
Food on the expensive side even for this pub. Meal for 2 with 2 starters and 2 drinks was over £100. Starters were OK, a lot of grissle in one and staff didn't seem to know how to handle someone saying the food wasn't the best? Service was decent but had better in the past here. I would definitely say its now on the overpriced side of good. Mains were small portions but filling and tasty. Starters were OK aside from the aforementioned issue but there's way too much sauce with the dishes... Seems wasteful. We come most years for our anniversary but affraid to say this year was a little disappointing but probably because it's been so good previously.
A wonderful country pub and restaurant with a small number of guest rooms. You'll find it down such a narrow lane that you'll be convinced you've gone the wrong way but its absolutely worth the drive. We had an excellent meal of shoulder of venison and some great local beer. We also stayed overnight in one of the rooms. It was cozy and well decorated, and the breakfast was delicious.
An enjoyable evening at The Pot Kiln for our group. The venue itself is warm and welcoming. You can get a drink in the warm bar beforehand and the staff are wonderfully welcoming. Furniture is pleasantly rustic, though could be maintained more. I had to switch both the chair in the bar and the chair at the table I had as the wooden chair joints were loose and threatened collapse! Wine list is modestly sized, but good and there some very good reasonable options. The menu is exciting and centres game. In retrospect the insalata caprese is an odd option to offer in January, and the tomatoes tasted like all tomatoes in winter. Satay guinea fowl skewers were good. Mains were ok. Good sauces, but venison pavé was a bit tough. Profiterole dessert was really excellent. The service was very friendly and on this occasion would probably make us think about coming back more than the food. Bill including roughly half bottle of wine each and an extra glass came to just under £80/head. For that price I’d have preferred to be wowed by the food, but the dessert was the only thing that came close. A good evening, but not sure that on that evening it deserved its Michelin recommendation. May have been an off evening in the kitchen, as other reviewers have clearly loved it, so we’ll be back to give it another go, because the warm-hearted generous atmosphere made up for a lot. Thank you. Vegetarian options: One veggie option on starters and mains. Couldn’t see vegan offerings, but we were asked about dietary requirements when booking.
This is my nearest local and while we drink here quite often we haven't had a special meal at the PK in a while. So what's it like? Great rural location with a nice garden. Inside, there's a lovely ambience in the bar and the restaurant with well laid tables, nice flowers and space; its not over crowded. The staff are warm and friendly and the menu is sensibly varied with vegetarian, fish and meat options as well as a range sweets cheeses etc. I went for meat and my wife chose the vegetarian Pithivier pie, which I have to say is very good. We'll definitely be eating here again.
Unique and marvellous! Fantastic food and ambience in an unrivalled rural location. A wonderful, rustic patio on which to enjoy a sunny afternoon or evening with a first class pint or decent vino. An upmarket dining experience at a sensible price for the quality delivered. Now with the opportunity to stay overnight, too... which we hope to do soon.
Honestly one of the best pubs I have ever done. The food was great, it is not like a fancy Michelin Star type restaurant, it is proper pub food well made yet refined. It is obviously a bit more expensive than a typical pub, but it is worth it, you know you eat good quality ingredients, respected and well prepared . I have to go back, and the area is beautiful too.
