Charming little SW trains hub, bustling with the kind of chaotic energy only a seaside city can muster. It’s got that classic British station vibe, think slightly sticky platforms, the faint whiff of coffee, and seagulls eyeing your pasty like it’s their birthright. The station’s compact, with four platforms that feel like they’re playing sardines at rush hour. The staff are cheery, often dishing out directions with a side of banter, and the electronic boards are mostly reliable, though they occasionally throw a tantrum. It’s a stone’s throw from the city centre, Gunwharf Quays, and the historic dockyard, perfect for a spontaneous HMS Victory selfie. The loos are decent, but bring a 20p coin for the privilege. Platform 1 is your friend and if the ticket machine’s acting up, charm the staff; they’re your ticket to freedom!
Good medium sized train station but not much open on Sat. Pretty facade at least. 15-20 min. walk to Gunwharf Quays or 30 min. walk to Portsmouth International Port and cruise ship terminal.
We were welcomed this morning 6th September 2025 at 7am by the nicest lady possible. She helped us with a smile. Such a pleasure to meet people who actually love their jobs and who are so kind. Thanks a lot

Disgrace, both ticket booths closed because the one member of staff was on a break! Problems with machine issued ticket through barriers and unable to plan my onward journey!
