Popham Model Aero Club A wonderful area to fly model aircraft. Sadly, no longer a member, due to numerous “No Fly Days” imposed by airfield management. But this beautiful corner of the Hampshire countryside is perfectly placed to enjoy a large expanse of set aside land to fly anything from park flyers to large scale models No Jets Except on the annual Popham Model Air Show there are only a couple of areas to avoid, one residential and one regularly used by caravans and campers! And a strict 400 feet maximum altitude limit. But still leaves a huge area to fly in without interfering with the operation of full size aircraft!! An on site cafe, children’s play area, clean toilets and plenty of interesting and often historic aircraft to look at, it’s a great place to visit if you’re interested in aviation!
Really nice airfield. Large carpark, friendly staff and a good cafe. Lots of aircraft landing and taking off, could have stayed all day. Very reasonably priced food and drinks which all tasted great. Definitely worth a visit, lots of seating inside and out
We love this place! Large viewing area, with tables and benches and also an inside seating cafe. We visited today and sadly only one aircraft but have been in the summer and saw many take offs and landings. Kids train play table and climbing frame. This place really caters for families and everyone. Free parking and toilets on site too. Fry up was cheap and cheerful but hit the spot. Highly recommend for anyone who loves a plane.
Flew in today from Dunstable, lovely staff and good little cafe. Reasonable landing fee at £10 for SEP. Will be back on an event day in the future!
Lovely little gem of a cafe. Nice outdoors area especially good on nice days when the planes are very active. You get a great view of the take offs and landings.
Always good to go to for an event. £10 entry fee isn't cheap but isn't the end of the world either. Mega Motorbike meet worth a walk around if you're into your bikes. Definitely worth attending if you have an old bike and/or after some parts.
The airfield is not only a great general aviation venue but is also outstanding for many outdoor activities from running to cycling. It is a great shame that such a fantastic venue will be lost to housing.
I was brought a ‘flying lesson’ for my birthday. Having never done anything like this before I was a bit apprehensive. I was blown away! I was initially introduced by a lovely man who advised me that my instructor was going to be Eric. Eric was absolutely fantastic, what LOVELY man! He briefed me, using a model to explain all functions and procedures etc. I can sometimes find too much information overwhelming but this was definitely not the case with Eric. He clearly had a passion for flying and wanted to make my experience as special as possible. Which he definitely did! He was laid back, calm and extremely knowledgable which filled me with confidence and trust but he also had a good sense of humour which added to the fun. It was truly one of the best things I have ever done and I I will definitely be back for more :-. On a side note… the cafe was superb and they were completely set up for children, weather waiting for someone whilst they were flying or just visiting to have breakfast/ lunch whilst watching the aircraft, can’t recommended highly enough! Thank you xx
Well worth a visit with a lovely cafe and friendly staff. A very popular general aviation location given it’s proximity to London a must visit location if your a keen aviation photographer or even just looking for somewhere to take the gran children. The site has ample parking and even boasts a caravan club site.
I went with my brother in his plane, it was my first time on this airfield and loved it. Would definitely recommend it! Its a shame due to lockdown we had limitations and cafe was shut but still had fun. Plus point weather was lovely too... so guys if you love flying then popham airfield is definitely a good recommendation.
