Polka Theatre

About

Polka Theatre is one of the few venues in the UK which is dedicated to producing and presenting world-class theatre for children aged 0 - 12 years.

Story

Since the doors opened in 1979, this unique venue has been entertaining children with resonant, engaging and exciting theatre.

Over 100,000 children a year come to Polka and are inspired, stimulated and engaged by theatre, often for the first time. Polka strives to stir the emotions, spark the imagination and, most of all, entertain. Its two theatre spaces, the Main Theatre and the Adventure Theatre are designed especially for children so that their first taste of theatre is welcoming and relevant.

Wonderful theatre, cafe and indoor play space. My son and I attended #Can’tSitStill production of “Oh No George” and played in their indoor play space for an hour before hand whilst I drank a coffee from their beautiful cafe. The staff are brilliant: kind, caring, patient and considerate. The theatre is a great space to watch a performance. The cafe does a great number of vegan and vegetarian options including mylks. Next time we’re there we’ll have a full meal. Can’t wait to come back. Thank you to everyone there for being so awesome
We have watched Footloose here. The show was fun, energetic, and a true joy to experience.
First visit, I took my toddler to a sensory class. Was aimed for 1-2yr olds. However, the class had a wide mix of ages, including babies. The only disadvantage to this was that the pace and interaction of the class did not seem a suitable fit. I felt disappointed by this. But the staff were amazing and the theatre has a lovely cafe.
Lovely place exhibiting shorter theatre productions aimed at younger children. Interactive environment welcoming all families. The production we saw was Handa's surprise, children and adults alike liked it and it was just the right length of time for them to stay engaged.
I just wanted to take the time out to express how much we enjoy our visits to your venue. On general days that we attend shows we always have a wonderful experience in a great fun, lively and positive filled atmosphere. But I also wanted to touch on the fact that you all as a team do a great job organising a fun filled family day every year and put lots of your individual time and efforts in making the Summer fun day a success. Your team are friendly, welcoming and nice to be around. I bring my two little ones every year as your venue is one of our favourites and we always enjoy spending time there. Just wanted to say thank you and we appreciate your hard work.
I liked it at first, but months later, my son, who was signed up for an after-school club with them, told me that one of the teachers there mentioned that "even some boys wear skirts." I couldn't tolerate that because LGBT topics are not accepted in our religion and should not be highlighted, not even taught to kids without parental consent. Additionally, my child told me the teacher shared this information only with him, which I found suspicious. I do not wish to send my children here again
We have watched three billy goats gruff here and while that was great we recently watched how to catch a star and honeslty, it wasn’t. I had no idea the play had no narration and just music. I think the age range for the play is definitely for under age 3 and should be advertised as such. I’d be wary of any play in the adventure theatre and not in the main theatre now. How to catch a star was very overpriced for what it was
What a fantastic renovation! A really nice cafe with a nice outside space... Seems to be missing an inside space that they had previously for kids to play. But all in all looks amazing! Looking forward to seeing my first show here in a month or so!
Beautiful smaller theater, great for introducing kids to visual art. The play we went to was engaging and my 4y and 10y old both had a great time!
The moment my kids see the Polka sign their face lights up! This place is truly magical. We had my son's birthday there last year and Bruno and the team at the cafe were so lovely and joyful they were practically celebrating it with us. They thought of everything and just made sure I was able to relax and enjoy with the guests. Yesterday we saw Everywhere bear for a post birthday treat and and I realised how many times we have been and all the lovely memories we have made at Polka over the last 6 years with both my kids. Thank you to everyone at Polka for everything you do, it really means so much to us and we are so blessed to have you round the corner <3
