Great pub, must be quite popular as it was quite busy which gave it a good atmosphere. Even though they were busy we didn't have to wait long to be served drinks or wait for food when we ordered. Food was great and the staff were friendly, chatty and efficient. Really good, thank you.
Mediocre perhaps the most boring Burger l have ever tasted, l was warned they had run out of bacon, l think l would have been better off going to McDonald's or Burger King the Sticky Toffee pudding was consistent and the place is dog friendly that was worth an extra star My hotel opposite said the Pub is a bit Hit and Miss! So l should have known what l was in for, the staff were efficient but not friendly
Excellent vegan food. We both had the Sunday roast, which included a very good nut roast and all the trimmings. Perfect for dinner after a long, cold day on the canal in the rain.
It's in a lovely spot by the canal. Drinks reasonably priced. Food looked nice, good service. Some outside tables/areas need attention. Good pub.
Enjoyed our meals at the poachers. The service was good and very friendly staff. Our dog loved his box with treats and a blanket to lie on.
Good food on a sunday til 1900hrs. Plenty of inside and outside seating. Family friendly pub. Great location nr the canal enabling a walk in either direction. We headed to Wales and back via the Aqueduct.
One of my favourite canal side pubs and even though it's a Marston's chain owned one, it was great coming back here again. Lots of memories from mooring outside The Poachers Pocket as it was known then whilst chugging along on our narrowboat through the Llangollen canal and popping in for a well deserved pint and meal. Very spacious inside and outside, lovely outdoor seating area and covered porch areas too. The staff were friendly, welcoming and attentive. Our meals were great and the choice of drinks was extensive and my Hobgoblin Ruby ale pint by Wychwood Brewery was perfectly kept and tasted fantastic! Thanks to all the staff and the chef here at The Poachers in Chirk for a lovely meal and experience. Well done all and a big shout out to Ryan and Jordan for such great service!
Great meal & hospitality even tho it was over 32°c outside. Andrea went out of her way to accommodate a family get together cruisers & local even though not booked. Highly recommended
Although the place was decorated both inside and out and all the Staff were extremely helpful and pleasant the manager was the total opposite he was very polite but failed to smile at all. I paid £16 for my meal which consisted of a scraggy chicken thigh with the bone still in place, a square of what tasted like cheap pulled beef and those exceptionally cheap powder potatoes you add hot water too to make which incidentally were cold and sent back. The wife had salmon with potatoes, she said it was OK. The two meals, two pudding and two halves of lager came to a staggering £47........ We were told the place had gone down since Marstons took it over but we like to make our own minds, but wished we'd of listened to the advice given. Till attitudes change and the ingredients are replaced with what you actually pay for instead of cheap food I would drive past and head into Chirk where there are several eateries to choose from. Oh by the way my bank card was declined 3 times because I for got to transfer any money to it so the wife paid for her own birthday meal.
Visited twice. Disappointed twice! First time arrived at 6pm to find that all the tables were already reserved even though most were not occupied. It seems as though they reserve each table once every evening and do not take account of turnover. Had a drink and left. We were on a boat and had no dinner that night. Gave them another chance. Second time arrived at 7 pm and got the last available table. I know that there were at least 3 boats behind us who were intending to stop here also, but would have been disappointed. The prime beer offering is Pedigree, but that was not available, even though they have two taps dedicated to it. The other beers on tap were bland and tasteless I'm a brewer. Ordered the lamb shank with vegetables which arrived with a few pieces of shredded cabbage. Very poor. Complained and a proper helping of vegetables arrived, so I don't know if it was just forgotten or if you had to complain to get it - maybe both. Not impressed by this pub.
