Went here on Saturday afternoon to book a table for the evening, staff were so friendly and welcoming, we actually got some free food and cocktail samples which were amazing and we were even more sold on our decision to eat here. We had the duck dish which came with potatoes and green beans. The duck was cooked beautifully. The cocktails are amazing too. Will definitely visit here again when in Newport.
Went to Bistrot Pierre 2 weeks back . We were seated quickly and attended to well throughout the meal. Ordered the 3 course menu and we were all happy with the choice and selection. Food was alright but did lack a bit of spice especially in the 'Goan prawns' which actually didnt taste like Goan prawns. Other than that the meal was pleasant . I would definitely recommend the steak.
"Soirée Gastronomique" The name of their menu title isn't what I would call a culinary or "haut cuisine" experience, mostly due to several mistakes - one of them serving beef stew instead of steak - and rather unprofessional service throughout the evening although I must say everyone was really polite. There isn't much to say about every dish. They were tasty, well proportioned and fairly priced. It's the very small cheese board 6 pieces and 3 crackers to share with two and the 'steak au poivre' that simply wasn't a steak. Upon mentioning this to the waitress she rushed to the manager who offered a discount which came down to 25%, fair. I honestly wouldn't have had any issue paying the full price if the correct cut of meat was given. "The menu changed and the waitress should've mentioned that" was the official explanations. Further errors such as serving me before the lady at the table during every course and the wine were forgivable yet terribly noticeable to both her and myself. The wine was good and again fairly priced 2x normal rrp. All in all worth to try or try again for sure.
Delicious food. Excellent and attentive service from Jack. Jack was friendly and happy, an absolute delight. All the staff were abiding by Covid guidelines, felt very safe. Good was excellent value and delicious, service from the staff. Definitely will be back
Great service and lovely food, only marking one down because of items not available on the menu
Nice spot for breakfast and very popular with locals. Breakfast dishes for around a fiver with unlimited tea or coffee. Food not outstanding but nice enough. Outside area very nice on a sunny morning, opens at 9am.
Food really nice, and value ok if you eat off the fixed price menu. Drinks expensive. Worth a lunchtime visit but check menu first to make sure they have something you like on fixed price menu.
Bistrot is always my all-time favourite restaurant in Newport but we were very much disappointed with our meals that day. My brother ordered the roast pork belly but it was dry and hard to chew, especially the skin. Me and my sister ordered chicken Diane and duck breast it was very dry too. My mom ordered hake fillet and it tasted alright but the portion was quite small. We ordered these before and it all tasted very delicious, especially the duck breast but sadly not this time. Sincerely hope the restaurant could make some improvements and I get to enjoy my food as much as before in my next visit. Staffs’ services are brilliant as always!
Had a terrible meal tonight 17.7. Booked a table at 7.15 and we were the only people there. I think Bistrot Pierre need to address their listed closing times as 8pm is listed on Google, but you can actually book a table until 8pm and the restaurant is open until 9.30pm. We certainly had the feeling that the staff wanted to go home. Service was rushed, with the starter being OK. The main meal was awful, my wife had the chicken and I had beef. Both came out minutes after we'd finished the starter and you could tell they'd been cooked and 'hot held' , probably in the oven. The meat had clearly carried on cooking and was inedible as were the vegetables. The presentation was awful with my beef and sauce just piled on top of mash. Disappointing, especially as the other restaurants surrounding it had a great atmosphere. In fairness the mains were taken off the final bill. We were regular customers but won't be going back!
Avoid this place. I had a meal at the Gower restaurant and it was good. I thought the Newport restaurant would be as good but.....NO. same meal as at Gower but the salmon was small and overcooked. The potatoes were dry and black in places and the hollandaise was oily. I gave it one star because the door was opened for me. Really it doesn't deserve any stars.
