Wow caught bigger fish going pond Dipping, stale chips left over from lunch no doubt, portion size questionable £34.72 for 3 standard fish n chips with a pot of peas take out felt like I was being robbed definitely a North/South divide as you definitely get more for your money in yorkshire. Would rather skip a meal then dine here again, I wouldn't give zero stars they definitely get 1 for being polite and friendly at point of service but nothing else going for them.
Stayed in Perranporth for a week and ate here several times. Fish is lovely, batter crispy and not at all oily. Chips cooked in beef dripping so really flavourful, I also liked the notice about being really potatoes, although sad you have to explain real food to people. Portions are realistic and responsible not mega size and with the cost of fish these days I thought good value. Loved the staff too so funny and friendly, with wicked dry sense of humour, which I totally got.
So, having read a lot of the reviews which to be Frank are pretty negative, I thought I would give a response based on my visit today Friday 19th August 2022. I wandered in at around 09:30am and was greeted by the young lad who was polite. I asked for a black coffee and that I would like to sit in. I scanned the menus and found the breakfast menu and ordered the basic breakfast - there was no one in the restaurant at the time. My coffee came and was white but no bother, it was more of a latte... A group of 18 walked in and were offered the two big tables at the back of the restaurant. Then in the space of about 5 minutes 3 parties of 6 walked in. They were informed that there would be a 15-20 minute delay on food straight away and were happy with this. One party explained that they only wanted drinks and were told they were too busy to serve just drinks by I think the owner so they left a little bemused..... My breakfast arrived and I got what I ordered- 1 sausage, 1 bacon, slice of bread, beans, a fried egg and half a tomato. The egg was cold and the bread soggy but the lad had asked me if i wanted toast so that would have been a better option, the beans were ok but luke warm but the sausage was tasty and you can't go wrong with bacon!! I was the only one in the restaurant who had ordered so it was disappointing. Having worked for numerous catering establishments, the business is in a prime location and spacious but seems tired - could be a brilliant eatery with a few tweaks...
We visited this restaurant for breakfast and upon arriving was asked to scan our temperature on the thermometer, bit weird as we are no longer under covid restrictions? Once we came in the restaurant we regretted our decision. The restaurant was cold, dirty cobwebs and very run down. The chef old man bit on the large size was sat opposite us from our seat on his phone, he sneezed whilst we was in restaurant and didn’t wash his hands, then after ordering our food he stood up and went in the kitchen. UNAWARE IF HE WASHED HIS HANDS. Me and my wife were very concerned and wanted to leave the restaurant, but with the lay out and a gate before entering/ exiting we felt trapped like in a prison and was too anxious to cancel our order. The chef came out with our food, placed them on table and I quote, “if you two leave anything I’ll eat it all up so please leave as much possible” We left a lot, not for the chef to eat just to save our lives. POTENTIAL FOOD POISONING!!!! We started to eat and was left very disappointed, the egg was raw. Sausage was cold, toast was under beans so soggy bread. The beans had a layer of skin over them so not fresh. We didn’t eat much, I wouldn’t even think we had 1 full breakfast let alone two. We decided to get up, and leave before we was disappointed with anything else. The bill came to £24 for 2 breakfast and 2 cokes, very expensive when you look at the quality of food. EDITED AFTER OWNER RESPONSE! Wow, how rude are some people! Completely in denial I’m giving you feedback and you just give me abuse back. Totally wrong. When I visit Cornwall in august I will pay you a visit.
First time ever been in this place. Had a gorgeous homemade pasty and chips with a pot of tea. Pasty and chips was hot, lovely and enough for me today. Managed to have two cups of tea as well. Everyone seemed lovely and would come back again
Visited in august 2022, we only came in as the other cafes was full and we was starvingwe left still starving we was made to check our temperaturenot sure why covid was high at this moment every where else we went didn’t do this nonsensewe regretted coming in as the place was very dirty and dingy and had a strange vibe, the “chef”smelly and unhygienic was sat in his phone and starring at us but didn’t speak at this point, we had to full English breakfast we asked for toast not fried toast… the chef fetched it over and said I’ll eat what you leave so leave it and what came was soggy bread the food was barely warm so we left most of it not for the “chef” the bill was rough about £24 I wouldn’t even spend £10 for what we received We left as quickly as we could, felt poorly after being there! I am a manger in a well know food establishment and I would be appalled to work here and to even have staff looking like this! And food tasting this bad! I have no idea how they have a rating to be open this need to be shut down!! GORDAN RAMSEY NEED TO GET HERE AND SHUT IT DOWN GET IT ON THE TELLY FOR HOW BAD AND RUDE THE STAFF ARE AND THE FOOD BEING UNDERCOOKED AND DIRTY….THE OWNERS ATTITUDE IS DISGUSTING HOW DOES HE HAVE A BUSINESS I WOULD BE ASHAMED TO WORK HERE LET ALONE OWN IT EDIT AFTER OWNERS RESPOND I have proof that I came here I have the transaction in my phone your clearly in denial when you look there is loads of bad reviews your a joke of a “owner” clearly need improve your customer service and cooking skills you idiot!!!!
This place is filthy! When I commented to the owner regarding all of the cobwebs and the rotten walls, he told me to p*ss off also in front of other customers, 2 of whom walked out. Honestly, we live less than 2 minutes away, yet when we want fish and chips, travel over 30 minutes to get them elsewhere! Sooner this owner sells up or folds the better. His breath was also horrendous when communicating, huge put off Whatever his reply to this of r any other review....... The simple answer is, the overall rating and customer feedback on here speaks for itself!
One of the worst if not the worst fish and chips shops I have ever been too. The staff are rude, portion size small and the quality poor. Obviously their business model revolves around the passing tourist trade and not locals. One get one star not not possible to give zero.
As I'm sure you can see from his responses the owner is the laughing stock of the town. Pickwicks was good before he bought it, they're lazy, very unhygienic,overpriced and unbelievably rude. As a local I'd never go here again, Go to Pavilions round the corner or Browns. Both cheaper and nicer.
Come to Perranporth on a lil holiday with my family, and after having a great day at the beach, we craved proper chips with curry sauce and Pickwick's definitely delivered! They cook everything fresh to order, and get locally sourced ingredients from the variety of potatoes they are cooking, to what trawler the cod came from! A cute, family run business, with friendly & competent staff. Who cares about decor?! It's about good food! Plus they cook their chips in "BEEF DRIPPING" I mean WOW!!! THE TASTE WAS AMAZING!!!! Best bloody fish & chips I've EVER HAD! THANKYOU PICKWICKS!! SEE YOU NEXT YEAR!!!!! P.s- To all bad reviewers that dissed Pickwicks, I saw your reviews, and I still went in, and i had the best chip shop chips of my life!!! Can't believe how people chat soooo much rubbish! Don't believe everything you read!!! Trust me the food is fantastic!!
