I was craving pho and I was lucky this place was close because it 100% fit the spot. We showed up for an early dinner so the restaurant was quiet but not empty and we sat at the bar looking out on the Hotel Ace. My husband and I split a bowl of pho with brisket and it was just right because we weren't too hungry. There were fewer toppings than I was used to, and we got red jalapeños instead of green, but I didn't miss anything. The broth was tasty but not greasy and the brisket was tender but not mushy. The noodles were cooked perfectly and I just couldn't get over how amazing the whole meal was. I definitely recommend though service and vibe were only so so.
Fast service. Nice staff. Good music. Overall good atmosphere. Really enjoyed the food.
Not bad at all plus very nice area and if you want some privacy, the underground floor room is pretty good.
I have very mixed feelings about this place: Avocado Smoothie - delicious and not at all overpowering Mighty Shaking Beef - very tender and tasty, though a little under-seasoned Steamed Sea Bass with Ginger Onion - delicious and perfectly done Steamed Rice - a little overdone Hanoi Bun with Grilled Chicken & Spring Rolls - nice but I've had better The reason for the fairly low score is the service. The staff are seem nice enough, but no one seemed particularly attentive or proactive. The restaurant is quite cold as it is, and yet the staff allow queues of waiting people to wait whilst holding the door wide open. Apart from when we had food delivered to the table, we had to ask for service every single time, such as when asking for menus, extra bowls, our plates to be cleared, the front door to the closed, and the bill. Also, the table next to ours had a plate of Pho accompaniments lime, bean shoots, chilli, coriander delivered to them which looked 80% used unless the bean shoots fell off on the way to the table. In summary, whist the food was quite tasty, you can get the same or better at the same price, at many other places just up the street.
Nice atmosphere. However, the overall experience was severely lacking. The portions were tiny and considerably pricier than its counterparts further up near Kingsland Road. The crushed peanuts were stale. The grilled pork apart from the fading taste of char is bland. They were very stingy with the vermicelli which frankly speaking is super cheap. The mediocre food was also accompanied by an unenthusiastic staff who insisted on packing strangers together on the same table without making space between the tables. Everyone involved felt super awkward. This was when the restaurant was relatively empty. Final say: skip it. There are much better in the area.
No-frills Vietnamese with a nice ambience! The pho is slightly more expensive than the ones I have tried, but it is the best. Really love the distinct rice noodle texture and aromatic broth. The noodle salad was great as well, though it could use more chicken.
Nice staff and efficient service but food was lacking. My Pho was very salty and the prawns were unusually white in colour, my friend’s noodles bit too oily. I prefer other vietnamese restaurants up on Kingsland road are which are also cheaper.
Looked busy so popped in for some Pho and spring rolls but after a closer look the menu looked quite bland. My spring rolls came at the same time as the Pho even though they were meant to be a starter. They claim the Pho broth is cooked for many hours but I bet it was from a packet. It was also way too spicy to be enjoyed with literally a sprinkle of bean sprouts. Looks can be deceiving.
Serves poor quality, stock cube broth not made from scratch as a good Vietnamese restaurant would do with their Pho. You can tell by the clear colour and taste of the broth - and you will feel very thirsty after the meal as I did because of the MSG. I was here around 9pm on a Saturday with my partner as I was still feeling peckish after dinner, but he was full, so only I ordered their "pho viet 68 special" pho, at £11.99 the price might now have been changed. If just the Pho had been bad I would not have taken the trouble to write a review, but the service was poor and inflexible as well. When I went to pay at the till, they had a sign saying that only transactions over £12 could be paid by card. I asked nicely if I could please pay by card as I didn't have enough cash on me, since the bill was only 1p short of £12. They refused and my partner had to walk to a cash machine 10 minutes away to get cash while I stayed behind, but as this was a Saturday night, there were over 15 people waiting at the cash machine and it would have taken a long time, so when he came back we asked them if we could pay £12 instead, to which they suddenly acted like they had done us a favour by charging us £12 - wasting our time in the first place. Generally the restaurant is clean and the atmosphere seemed fine, but definitely avoid this restaurant for the poor food quality and service - they also have poor reviews on their Facebook page. Worst meal and experience I've had in a long time.
I went for dinner here after watching a game at bar kick. The pho was decent but what stood out was the apple and orange juice mix. Best juice in the area and great on a Saturday night out. Too bad they don't serve drinks at night.
