This cathedral really surprised me in the best possible way. It’s not one of the more famous cathedrals in the UK, but honestly, it deserves a lot more attention than it gets. The west front is just jaw-dropping, with enormous Gothic arches creating a truly dramatic entrance.nnInside, it’s a fascinating blend of architectural styles. You’ve got the Norman nave with its bold, geometric arches, and then other parts that lean into later Gothic. It's a pleasant mix to take in, visually and historically.nnIt’s a peaceful space, but not stuffy or overly curated. Staff and volunteers are friendly and knowledgeable, and it never feels overly commercialised.nnAll in all, a hidden gem that’s worth the trip. If you like cathedrals and haven’t been to Peterborough, you’re missing out.
A beautiful building, well maintained, clean, with a very interesting history. Free entry, donations, there was a World War exhibition on when I came here, and this was any donation you wanted to pay. Henry VIII first wife was buried here, and Queen of Scots. Friendly staff.
This cathedral is right inside the citynIt is a lovely place to visit and enjoy thenBiblical tones it throws out to the public. It's free to walk around.nAs I was wondering around the organ began playing and the curator was saying a pray, It was very humbling and very emotional. And don't forget tonLook out for Catherine of Aragon tombnHenry Vlll first wife..nThere is also a gift shop just inside the cathedral and I met two lovely ladies who were severing customers, They were very helpful and very polite.
Stunning cathedral in the centre of Peterborough.nOur guide Stevie, I think that's what he was called, was excellent.nVery informative and clearly had a passion for the history of the cathedral.nThe tour was just over 90 minutes and at six pounds was excellent value.nYou don't need to take the guided tours.nYou can just enter this stunning building for a donation.
A magnificent building, which is, unfortunately, infested by Roman Catholicism. Let us not forget that the foundation of all cathedrals is our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, who has RISEN.nnFirstly, we are not to make brazen images, idols, figurines, or images of anything, and that includes Him: Exodus 20:4. Yet a tall, horrifically ugly crucifix hangs from the ceiling upon entrance. Look at the metal face. It is like a demon. This was a gift to commemorate the death of a priest in 1975. Crucifixes have no place in Christianity. We are born again of the Spirit because of His resurrection and ascension. Therefore, why remember Him for the 6 hours or so that he hung, physically, on the cross?nnSecondly, the notes explaining the Christian faith that accompanies the old latin and medieval bibles are so watered down. It portrays the 1% of the Bible that portrays Christ as accepting and loving everyone, yet hides the other 99% that only true believers know.nnThirdly, the calendar of events is all secular nonsense. Several past events are shown as having been cancelled. I am not surprised. This is a place of worship, not Peterborough Arena. It is for God-worship, not devil-worship.
