Perfect second hand bookshop. If only it wasn't 180 miles from my house, I would be a weekly visitor. As it is, I managed to stock up on my next 6 months reading for only £25. Just like a broken drum, you can't beat it.
Amazing "little" bookstore. It's a glimpse into the past, with thousands of books from floor to ceiling. Very affordable prices and the selection is amazing, but it's a tight fit. Would recommend
The lovely thing about Sheringham which we visit for a week each year is that very little changes as the years go by - and I wouldn't have it any other way. Peter's Bookshop is a perfect example of this! We're back in August and my mind is already wandering to dressed crab and spending far too much time perusing the shelves of this treasure trove. Quirky for sure and tightly packed with books in every nook and cranny; but there are some real gems therein. I'm counting down the weeks - don't go changing!!
Each time we come to Sheringham usually once a year for a week we visit this Aladdin’s cave seeking out its treasures. Such a joyous place to explore, we usually go back home with 10 or 15 books. Long may Mr Cox’s wondrous book palace provide us with its delights.
I first visited this amazing bookshop when i was a little girl in the 80's while on holiday. Almost every year we would visit when i was a kid and it was always a highlight of the holiday and the whole family would come out with armfuls of treasured finds. Now as an adult i have visited several times in the past 20 years with my own family and its such a nostalgic joy to see some of the same books on the shelves from when i was a kid, or so it seems. I can easily lose several hours in this maze of books. My tastes in books have changed over the years, its no longer Enid Blytons and Twinkle annuals, but this shop instilled in me a lifelong love of books, especially old ones from the 19th century and 20th century classics and i try to make a yearly pilgrimage to my favourite bookshop...i've visited many, including "booktown" Hay-on-the-Wye but as of yet, in my 40's now, i've yet to find another to replace its top spot in my heart! I always find what i'm after mostly and the staff always know where they are if i can't find them. I love that they leave you to browse in peace but if you want a chat or ask questions they are always so friendly and helpful. The only time i was ever disappointed was when we made the trip there and it was closed!
A great disappointment. This was a shop I used to make special trips to, and always came away with a good haul: no more. a the opening hours are just weird; b he won't take payment by any means other than cash; c there is so much surplus stock that it is stacked in piles along the gangways, waist-high, and in places two deep, so the lower shelves are totally obscured, and the upper ones almost inaccessible without climbing on the piles. In at least one case, a whole bay was virtually silted up like this. After about 10 minutes I gave up and left.
Peter's Bookshop is an inspiring, touching, timeless and memorable experience which I recommend highly. One of my favourite shops in England! Somewhere I could easily spend hours. I look forward to my next visit.
Wonderful! Peter is a gentleman and his shop is the second-hand book store of fairytales. Don't expect order or a quick index-led search for your book. Instead, set aside an hour or two to browse musty nooks and crannies, rifle through chaotic piles of novels to find the odd gem or unexpected interest. Irish cooking? Pig farming? First edition Boswell? If you need the health section, Peter will open up a dark store cupboard at the back and hand you a torch. Give your children a budget and let them rummage and explore. If you can't find something, tell Peter and a year later when you return he'll pull your desired volume out from under the counter. He does buy books but only if he thinks they'll sell.
A really old fashioned, books to the ceiling and narrow aisles between, sort of place. Popular and modern paperbacks outside in genre order and author. Out of print and unusual ones inside. Peter is a lovely, friendly but shy man with a wealth of local knowledge.
I holiday in Norfolk once a year and look forward to my visit to Petes bookshop yes books are stacked high yes books are on the floor .Just look and you will be rewarded with a great selection of material I have been disappointed
