Peter Grenfell Funeral Directors have been serving the communities of Ashington, Bedlington, Blyth and the surrounding area for over 35 years. During this time a reputation of care, compassion and trust has allowed Peter Grenfell to take care of families during their most difficult time.
Peter Grenfell started life as a Funeral Director when he joined his father and brother under the name John Grenfell and Sons which was formerly D Davies in Bedlington. Peter was the third generation following his father John and grandfather Tom. During this time Peter lived and worked in Ashington building relationships with those he served.
In 2004, the family business parted and Peter carried on under his own name from his home and premises at Westfield House, Ashington. The premises included chapels of rest and a refreshments room where many families still come following a service to share memories of their loved one.
In January 2008, Peter took the decision to retire and approached William Purves Funeral Directors of Edinburgh, themselves a family run firm in their fifth generation, to take care of the business. At this time Dominic Appleby joined the company having trained with a local funeral firm and in due course was followed by funeral director John Kinghorn and administrators Ros Tanney and Moira Duzenli.
The company values of compassion, dedication, integrity and respect continue to be offered at the highest level to the bereaved.
Changes have occurred over recent years including the decision to change the fleet of funeral vehicles to the distinctive grey colour as well as the opening of a new office and chapel of rest at Vulcan Place, Bedlington. Community involvement includes the sponsorship of Hirst Park Bowls Club and the Seniors section at Newbiggin Golf Club as well as many presentations to various groups.
The team at Peter Grenfell Funeral Directors feel it a privilege to be part of the local community. Dominic, John and the staff have built upon the relationships formed by Peter Grenfell and take the utmost care in maintaining these for generations to come.
