I should’ve read reviews before entering the store. I’ve been living in the neighbourhood for 2 years now, always looked like a nice ma and pa shop. Rude service by the owner about me purchasing small ticket items. I would save some of your money by checking out kitchen stuff plus down the street first before entering the store. Way cheaper for the same branded items. Check out both stores to make a final decision on what you really need. Service is always key
Peppermills is easily one of the best specialty kitchen stores in the Yonge/Eglinton area. I was really sad to hear they were closing, but relived to hear they’re going to be staying open! They have a wide selection of kitchenware that’s high quality- and every time I visit, I always leave with something new.
After visiting the store today, I can't say that I'm surprised that it is closing. The owner is the Mr. Fawlty of kitchenware stores. I came in today in hopes of finding a large teapot. As I was looking around, I saw a large teapot on a shelf and picked it up carefully to look at it. The owner came up to me and scolded me for handling the teapot, noting that it had handles on both sides I did pick it up with both sides. For some reason, he thought that the fact that I was wearing a backpack meant that I wouldn't handle the teapot carefully maybe I was planning on twirling around with it in my hands, so the backpack would smack it?. I was going to put it back, when he said "I'll just take it, it's a $250 teapot!" I said I didn't know how much it was, and he replied that it was expensive and "was not something to play with". My impression was that I was not the class of customer he wanted in his store. I have never felt so insulted in a store in my life. If you're thinking of visiting before they close, don't bother.
Staff was rude when my bf went here a while back was a grumpy older man, likely the owner. My bf asked about some all-clad pans, then left. He went back a while later and the same person told my bf “if you’re not going to buy anything, don’t come back”. Who treats customers like this? For the record, my bf ended up buying a full set for over $1400 from a different store!. What a terrible experience… but if you’re into being ridiculed, I guess shop here?
Not surprised to see this place closing after multiple bad experiences over the years. The reviews have been hurrendous for years and now that he is closing I feel more comfortable rating this place a 1 star. typically I never bring down a small business even with atrocious behaviour The owner is the most terrible, angry, unprofessional person I've ever seen run a store in my life. The fact that if you scroll through the reviews and him not take accountablilty to one negative review and also rebuttals just about every single one says just about everything you need to know. Good riddance. EDIT: This owner has officially lost his mind... a son? I don't have a son - nor did I skip any line therefore there was never any yelling and screaming. Wrong person. Get a life - hopefully a happier one where you are less angry.
It is very very sad to see this wonderful store closing after being such a neighborhood fixture for so many years. I always relied on the owner’s advice and recommendations and was never disappointed. He introduced me to WOLL pots and pans and I now have several - non-stick with diamond embedded aluminum…Teflon-free. His tableware, kitchen tools are all such high quality. I’m hoping that in the next month as he’s readying for his next chapter that he might change his mind and remain. With so much demolition and condo development in this area it would be nice to retain a foundational store such as Peppermills
Love this store! The last of a dying breed- quality products, unique items, great brands AND the owner is so nice and really knows his stuff! Pots and Knives are the highest quality!!!
This store is beautiful and the items are terrific. I used to really love shopping here in-person when I lived close by. Unfortunately, I no longer live in the area and made a purchase which was shipped to me last summer. It arrived with two of the items missing from the package despite a packing slip saying all items were present. I replied to their email notifying me of delivery and reported the oversight and received a kind email reply that they would send the two items immediately. I offered that it was not urgent as they were Christmas gifts but that they could deliver them in the next few months. Unfortunately, that got lost in the shuffle likely in the busy holiday season and I also missed it until early December. While it took a few efforts to get in touch, they were extremely apologetic and helpful in fixing the process when we were able to finally connect and they also threw in an item I had tried to order but was out of stock in my initial order. I really appreciate the effort to find a solution and it was above and beyond to include the other item. The email from the proprietor was also very respectful, apologetic, and kind. The shop is absolutely lovely for in-person shopping so, if you are in the neighbourhood and have a chance, the people there have always been helpful and kind when I've been in and the products are terrific and beautiful. It is a calm calming too and aesthetically pleasing shop with interesting and high-quality products and I'm hoping to return in-person when my schedule allows. Thanks for all of your help!
We bought a couple of Woll pans here a few months ago on recommendation from the owner. They were a bit more expensive than we were looking to spend, but it was a package deal and he gave us a very good price, so we ended up walking out with them. Boy, I am so happy to be cooking on these amazing pans. They have elevated the execution of my sautéed dishes and fish and meats. Perfect caramelization. Thank you for the recommendation!
Very complete store with lots of practical items for the home. Here you will find everything from pans to dinner sets for oriental meals. The store is well located in the central part of Avenida Younge, and is close to several shops and bus stops, as well as private parking lots and an easy stop for taxis and app cars. Good service and easy dialogue.
