We visited Penshurst Place last week and were impressed by both the house and the gardens. There is a lot to see and the guides were very well informed and helpful. It was good to see some of the locations used in the production of Wolf Hall and The Other Boleyn Girl amongst others. We also took the woodland walk which had a fantastic area for children to build dens. A great day out for a family or a couple.
This is very nice big residence. The castle has a lot of nice paintings, a grand hall and dining room. This place had a beautiful and large and well organised garden. There is also a nice big playground and a big wilderness trail for the kids to follow with fun story boards along the way. There is also a nice gift shop and café. We arrived a little too late for the Toy Museum which will give us a reason to come back another time.
This was a very beautiful day. The historical house is kept in beautiful conditions. you obviously can't visit it all, but the rooms available are enough to make the ticket value worth it. I loved the great hall, the rooms and historical furniture and artifacts. They have some interesting information about films and TV shows filmed in here, including original costumes wore by Scarlet Johansson and Natalie Portman, which I found fascinating! Interesting collection of original weapons and armours as well. I definitely recommend a quick visit to the toy museum, which is included in the ticket. It's a small room so you will only need 10-20 minutes to visit it, make sure you don't miss it! You don't need to book in advance, we went there on a Saturday and it wasn't busy at all. During peak times and bank holidays it's probably best to book in advance. Sometimes they close earlier when they host weddings in the house, so make sure you check their opening times in advance, to avoid any disappointment. The gardens are brilliant too. Very big and lots of different areas to visit. Definitely recommend this visit for a nice and relaxing day out. It's family friendly and with the café and little shop just outside the main entrance, there's plenty to do. Lots of availability for free parking too.
Penshurst Place is somewhere we went a fair few times when I was younger and it's ready for new memories now with my kids. Of course they loved the playpark which has some interesting bits and pieces for them to clamber, climb, swing and slide on. The coffee and ice cream is good, but the cafe does get busy late morning time. Gift shop is a nice size, with plenty for children to look at. Plenty of gardens to look around too, which have ample opportunity for running around chasing each other Well worth a visit.
We met our friends here on a sunny summer's day in August and parked in the big car park. Then we went to the cafe for an early lunch which was tasty and they were able to cater for celiacs. We went in and paid got a slight discount for being English heritage members, but it's not too expensive anyway then let the children 10, 7, 3 and 2 have a few minutes in the good sized, wooden, play park. There are a lot of different styles, sizes and types of gardens, all of which are well maintained and kept, some of which are very pretty, or amusing and fun. The children enjoyed them as much as we did. Then there is the little toy museum which has some nice examples of older toys and the actual house which you can look around some of; the large banqueting hall, dining room and gallery were some of them. Overall we were here for about 5 hours, the children were worn out nicely and we all had a good time. Recommended.
Beautiful historic house and gardens. Helpful staff and pamphlets for each room. The staff in each area were friendly and knowledgeable. The formal gardens were beautiful and well presented. As in a lot of places the Box hedges have been attacked by the box moth catapillers. Thou seem to be under control.
Beautiful. The gardens are extensive, with multiple 'rooms' created to showcase a variety of planting, some of which was aesthetically stunning. But, far too many plants were not named. If your reason for visiting is to look for ideas you can use in your own garden, then like me, you'll be disappointed with the lack of information. As long as you are aware of this in advance, this won't spoil your visit, because it is a beautiful place and a lovely experience, nevertheless.
Beautiful grounds, storied past, well maintained and restored, eclectic connections, worth a visit and a wander. Bring a blanket and a picnic and enjoy the park and many gardens!Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Wonderful day visiting with two young children. Adventure play area is spacious and surrounded by lovely green countryside. Gardens impressive and immaculate. House fascinating and full of history. Crafts room and toy museum added extra interest for the children, and all staff were very friendly. Cafe extremely reasonably priced - my only suggestion would be to include an item of fruit in the children's lunchboxes would happily pay more for this. Will definitely visit again.
Had a great day here, magnificent house full of history & where Wolf Hall was filmed, the garden is very interesting made of separate 'rooms' and well maintained, guides very helpful, & the toy museum is a delight.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
