We stayed for two nights in a superior double and loved every aspect of our stay. Check in was a breeze - given clear instructions about our stay/breakfast etc and then given the key. We ate/drank in the bar - service was very attentive and the food was superb. The staff in general really couldn't do enough for us - we asked for a taxi and this was arranged without any issue. I'd recommend The Peacock without reservation.
Boutique hotel, great location to access the peak district and Chatsworth estate. Good service. It has an electric charger for cars- this could do with being stated on their website. Bar is great and nice breakfast.
Fantastic experience all round. We found the dining hall to be a little quiet for our liking but the food and wine was excellent.Rooms: 5/5
Lovely Hotel in great location. Very friendly staff who answer any of your questions with a smile. It has easy access to Chatsworth House and Haddon Hall both worth a visit.Rooms: 5/5
Fantastic atmosphere, beer and food. Great staff.
Really disappointed with our stay. We were expecting luxury but unfortunately, it fell way short. The staff were pleasant, and it's in a nice area, but everything else was subpar. There was no atmosphere whatsoever, especially in the dining room, which was dark and dingy. The food looked amazing, like something from the finals of Master Chef. Unfortunately, we found every dish to be bland. The house wine is expensive but it tasted like a cheap bottle from the supermarket. The bedrooms are small and in a state of dilapidation. Also, this is the first experience where my feet were sticking out from the end of the bed due to the short bed length. The bedroom walls are also extremely thin - we were woken up by a couple next door having a conversation as it felt like they were in the same room. The owner should consider reducing the costs in line with similar pubs because the experience is nothing special, and certainly not worth the money. We've stayed at many places across the UK, and we'd be happy to return to most of them, but we won't be returning to The Peacock I'm afraid.
Mixed review about the Peacock. The barman was great and made a cocktail that wasn’t on the menu. However the food was average for the £75 pp price point and I was given something I had stated at the start of the meal that I had an allergy too. Amuse Buche was spot on but starters and mains were a let down. We opted for cheese for the dessert as the other options again just seemed too far fetched. The vegetarian main was cheese filled pasta in a watery broth, it just didn’t work on any level. We came away feeling that the £220 bill wasn’t worth the quality. A pleasant atmosphere but wish we’d just come for drinks.
Firstly, the quality of the food was outstanding, the complexity of the dishes for the money paid demonstrated very good value. The disappointment however was that we were unable to order the tasting menu. We were informed that due to how busy it was, a-la-carte would be the only option. Tasting menu dining would need to have been pre-booked. I have never had this stipulation before and I would expect the opportunity to read the menus before making this choice on the day. The messaging when making the online booking was not clear around this requirement either. We had a very nice dining experience, but I feel compelled to drop two stars due to this service issue.
We had a disappointing stay at the Peacock. Given the price £310 per night, marketing & the recommendation from Mr & Mrs Smith - we assumed we were in for a weekend of luxury. Our 'superior double' was very basic with an extremely small, run down en-suite - no bath, chipped tiles, dirty grout and no where on the vanity to store personal belongings. There is no coffee machine in the room which is something I have come to expect in 4* hotel. The common areas bar, lobby, dining areas had no atmosphere or music and were freezing cold. Despite being a sunny weekend, there was no effort made to setup the tables outside and offer people drinks in the garden. The food was very tasty, but all of the starters we had were ice cold to the point of brain freeze. The servers all seemed a bit confused - bringing wrong orders, forgetting sides & not once asking us how the food was or if we wanted something else to drink. Breakfast was quite average, again we were not offered sauces or asked how the food was. We purchased discounted tickets to Chatsworth House and was told by the receptionist that they were valid for all time slots, so imagine our surprise when we arrived at Chatsworth House at 10:30am to only be told the tickets were only valid after 12pm. Our checkout bill was a bit vague, not going into itemised details about what we had ordered but instead listing "food" or "drinks", and I was not asked how my stay was. I have left feeling a bit perplexed as to why the high price & ratings. It all felt a bit 'fawlty towers'.
Very good loved it food and service excellent will go again .
