Took a custom road wheel I had built a few years ago to be trued up, as it happened it needed a bit of work thanks to the state of the roads. Paul did the work while I waited & looked at some very nice bikes & components. It was interesting to watch Paul work on the wheel. Wheel is back in perfect condition & back on the road. Will definitely be going back to the shop. Super friendly service & very reasonable too.
Gear change cable just arrived for my Trek Road bike a moment ago. Why do I buy from Paul when I live in Bath? Because I describe what I want, he questions me til he's happy, and then sends me the right stuff usually with some little helpful item added in. Yes, it's a bit more expensive - but I save all that struggle and searching to source and avoid parts that don't fit. That's a good deal.
I had a heart attack a few years ago, afterwards I got talking with Paul about an e-bike for touring. Paul said there may be alternatives, we spoke about my needs and Paul built me a bike based on his own Audax frame. Last year, I rode over 6,000 miles on it, the bike is good This year, I've upgraded the wheels which Paul built using Hope Pro5 hubs and H Plus Son "Hydra" rims. WOW What a difference! The old wheels were good but the new ones are sublime. The bike and new wheels run so well together. I'm really looking forward to touring this summer. Paul has been stoic putting this bike and wheelset together and for his advice, fantastic value for money. Thank you Paul
Amazing service. Knowledge second to none. Work exemplary. Very professional staff. The work done on my 1930's H. C. Strudwick was exactly as I had asked for in fact even better.
I brought in my two kids' road bikes to get their handlebar tape and a few other bits sorted, they came back looking amazing, and Paul was really helpful sorting out an issue with the gears on one of them. Really knowledgeable chap, a traditional "proper" bike shop.
After over 11,000 km, mainly in the mountains of Bulgaria and the Greek Peloponnese, our Volt e-bikes were more than ready for a major service and thorough check over, which they certainly got from Paul Hewitt. In addition to routine adjustments and lubrication, three worn brake rotors and two Schwalbe Marathon tyres were replaced, the electronically shifted hub gears were stripped and lubricated, and a tricky loose chain guard made secure. Between us we have been cycling for 131 years, and together over the last 30 years we have ridden traditional touring bikes that Paul built for us across the USA twice, Australia Perth to Brisbane via Broken Hill, a 4,600-mile tour of New Zealand, and the UK to Istanbul, as well as climbing most Alpine and Pyrenean cols. So we know a good bike shop when we use one, and Paul Hewitt in Leyland is simply the very best. Barry and Margaret Williamson
I ordered a black alloy seat post for my GT Out post hardtrail retro mountain Bike, which i collected today. I'm happy with the service at Paul Hewitts Cycles my bike part arrived in his shop within a week as Paul said it would. In my opinion Paul Hewitts Cycle shop is the best cycle shop in Leyland his shop is excellent and Paul a really professional wheel builder, if want want a quality pair of wheels building then Paul Hewitts is the go to shop in Leyland, because Paul is such a professional and I'd highly recommend visiting Paul Hewitts Cycles if you've never shopped there before. Paul helpfull to me when i placed an order for the black alloy seatpost which I'm happy with, Paul Hewitts is an excellent shop and it's a traditional bike shop which a very good reputation indeed.
This is an updated review, the previous review being the bottom paragraph. I have since replaced the Trek and Colnalgo with Sartos created in a partnership with Sarto Italy, Paul and his team. The first was created pre Covid and was a faultless project. The second bike has encountered issues but throughout Paul has provided excellent customer care. All the problems arose in the build and with components. The new cycle, a unique carbon frame enhanced with a metallic weave and resin is incredible. I remain delighted with this independent store which offers everything a cyclist needs - servicing, repairs, new cycles, hand built wheels and frames, advice and support. Ok one can buy on line but an independent small retailer gives you personal attention, tailored advice and after sales support. I live in France but Paul and his team have been brilliant over the last few years. I can call Paul from France if needed and my road bikes Trek and Colnago are now only maintained by Paul and his team. They have a few weaknesses but this is more than made up by the quality of service and honest opinions on products. I will use one example, wheels. After a few years of buying high value factory wheels which then failed I have switched to Paul hand building a wheel set. He explored my cycling conditions frequent strong winds !, cycling regime, my weight, and then designed and built a brilliant pair of wheels bespoke to my needs. And when they need maintenance, I have Paul and his team ! Over five years I reckon Paul's hand build/ service facility will save me a four figure sum.
Wanted a new bike on Cyclescheme so it goes through my employer, looked up nearest place and this was it. Called in, had a quick test ride and a good chat to Paul who was super helpful about the scheme and how it works. Placed my order at work via the scheme and 3 weeks later all sorted and bike picked up. The handover was super easy and seamless. Great service and nice to use a local company rather than a big company like Decathlon or Halfords etc thanks Paul and team! Great experience.
Poor workmanship. I asked them to fit a new cassette which I supplied and asked them to fit a shimano chain to it. They fitted a noisy horrible chain. I also asked them for a service. But lots of noises coming from the different rings and gears. Took it back but was fobbed off. Still having the same issues. Never again. Disappointed!
