Beautiful church with history back to Saxon times. Mostly rebuild in 19c is one of very few churches in UK with the central bell tower. Beautiful internal brings peace to your soul
This was a beautiful stop. The church is very old and so carries a musty scent. There is a beautiful organ in the church and a tomb with beautiful wooden beam architecture and lovely stained glass . I got to climb the bell tower which is like 92 steps to the top of tower which gives you the most amazing view of the town and the lake nearby.
Saturday, 25 September 2021 2pm. On a beautiful autumnal day this place is breathtaking. On climbing the 92 steps you reach the tower top. Heritage leadwork keep out the inclement and mischievous centuries old climate change. .On the way you pass where the jolly and skilled campanologists practice their skills on a friday evening and produce a mighty performance on high days, though they tell me funerals these days remain more sombre. The short burst at the afternoons close of viewing left me loving what l heard and perhaps rethinking my tootleing on arrangements. On the next floor, all with beams that maybe were recycled from salty marine Ark,s is the clock chamber.Electified these days but fine agricultural engineering from the world famous clock makers a few spires and towers away at neighbouring Whitchurch.. Then the Oh joy floor with rehung bells, all rremoved to Whitechapel in the seventies to be assessed and then finely tuned for the Shropshire lads and lass's delights. The very large wheels or pullies that the bell ropes run through are magnificent new english oak reproductions .I am much saddened that the original several centuries old were not saved for viewers today elsewhere in the building .An appalling price of progress. Directly below this tower is an Alter in the main of this very special place. There is richness all around beyond my descriptive capabilities.. This is God's House.
Didn't actually go on to the church but had a great time by the lake nearby!!
Always make us feel very welcome
Beautiful church
