Came here for dinner as on holidays in the area so always struggle to find somewhere to eat the way the food came out i was a bit shocked as the chips and fish looked like they came somewhere where you buy frozen then cooked the chips were definitely not home made and fish was very greasy! staff seemed very miserable! Note to yourself ! always go to your local Chinese fish and chip shop as they’re much better !
Great takeaway nice food and fast.only thing chip portions sometimes a bit small otherwise all good.
Great fish and chips. Quick, efficient and friendly staff. Easy parking.Food: 5/5
Palmer’s service, food preparation, and overall cleanliness was second to none. We made a family visit and was welcomed with a smile and excellent food . We definitely recommend and will return . Kid-friendliness: Great table service and very attentive to your needs . Parking: Plenty of space

Two out of five might be a bit harsh but... We had planned to eat in and I asked about which oil was used for frying as my daughter has a peanut allergy. The waitress went to ask and came back to tell me it was ok, they didn't use peanut oil, they used ground nut oil. In case you don't know, ground nuts are peanuts! Luckily I know this but I do wonder what would have happened if my parents had taken my daughter as they might have been reassured by the waitress. If Palmer's read this, please ensure your staff are correctly informed and perhaps have signage to assist those with peanut allergies.
Our experience of Palmers, Bunford Road on friday lunchtime was most disappointing. Despite being advertised as serving food in the restaurant until 2 pm when we arrived at 1.30 pm we were harassed to firstly place our order, despite one person being in the toilet. We were told by the waiter that last orders for food was 5 minutes after our arrival making it 1.35 pm for last orders - no signage to that effect visable. The waiter brought our food and whilst we were eating he approached us three more times to chivvy us along creating an atmosphere of harrassement. The waitress started to hoover the floor whilst customers were still eating again clearly demonstrating the staff wanting to close down the restaurant. Overall an intimidating experience despite the food being excellent. In our view if the restaurant is open until 2 pm then food should be available until 2 pm not 1.35 pm. We would have had dessert and coffee but customers were being ushered out in time for 2pm. Such a shame.
After a quick stop in to pick up for takeaway, I get home to find I did not have exactly what I had ordered. I had barley a small portion of chips when I had ordered a large. I also only received one battered sausage when I ordered two and I was missing the curry sauce I ordered. When I phoned up to complain no manager was present and they advised me to come and collect what was missing but did not want to re-do my whole order. I was not willing to do this as by the time I took the trip and got back home the rest of my food would be cold. They informed me a manager would call me back the following Monday to address my complaint but did not receive a call!! They only care about money and don’t give a dam about the customers!! On top of this the following day I had food poisoning. I would recommend anyone to use any other fish and chip shop as you get what you order and at half the price, and much more taste to the food. I will NOT be using Palmers again in my lifetime! As a business they have a duty of care to their customers but this seems to be at the bottom of their list and all they care about is earning a quick buck. The staff turnover is so high because they pay so low. This is not a good business and I would know being a business man and a chef myself. Absolute appalling!!!! I also think a health inspector from the food standards agency should make a visit because food poisoning from cross contamination should not be happening. I’m actually amazing This place is still even open. If anyone wants a better recommendation please feel free to get in touch with me and I would be happy to direct you to a much better fish and chip shop.
I have been coming to palmers for over 7 years and have never been let down, either in the restaurant or the take away. Until lunchtime today. I don't know what had been going on behind the scenes, but the atmosphere was awful, you could literally cut it with a knife. Unusually we weren't greeted, the server just pointed to a table. On the server returning with our meals, he stood behind my wife and put her meal on the table over her head and instead of walking around the table, leant over my wife and just plonked the meal in front of me as if to say "there it is!!". Very disappointed today. It won't stop us coming back, but it won't be any time soon.
We arrived about 13.15 to an almost empty restaurant. We had a few minutes wait before a lady came and showed us to a table. We looked at the menu and it said "Ask about our specials menu" so I did! I ordered cod, chips, bachelor's mushy peas, a bread roll and a cup of tea. Hubbie by had a large cod with bachelor's marrowfat peas, a bread roll and a cup of tea. We waited a few minutes before we were presented with two ready made cups of tea with milk added! It would have been nice to have been offered it how we like it. As we waited there was a really cold draft coming in from the open glass doors. We eventually received our meals...but the bread rolls were more like sticks....you can't make a decent chip butty out of them..that is a big issue to be fair in a chip shop. Iiterally within minutes we were told that they would be stopping serving food at 2 pm and if we wanted anything else to order now. Whilst it was kind of them to say so it was also annoying as we were just having a nice relaxing lunch....how would we know if we would like another cup of Luke warm brewed tea in half an hour never mind a dessert?! Whilst we did enjoy our meals I'm not sure if it is somewhere we would visit again when popping over to Yeovil. Also I am curious as to why there are only 2 disabled parking bays that are in the middle of the carpark yet the parking righ outside the doors is "normal" parking?
