Paisley Abbey is a stunning building, rich in incredible history. The architecture is breathtaking, and the sense of heritage is evident as you explore the space. What made the visit even more special was the team of volunteers. They are so knowledgeable, friendly, and welcoming! They brought the history to life with fascinating stories and insights. It's well worth a visit, whether you're a history buff or just passing through.
Another one of our locations for looking for my wife's family, we encountered Paisley Abbey after we attempted our first look at Hadrian's Wall. And lo and behold, we find one of the ancestors by the name of John Hamilton, and we took our time examining a church that used to echo with his footsteps. Cool! As you can see, the church is very wheelchair accessible, and it is crammed full of artifacts, tombs, and lots of inscriptions.
Lovely building with a mixture of time periods starting with medieval and more recent works. Finally took the tour today with a lady called Linda, knew her stuff and seemed to have a genuine love for the place!
This was a great visit with the option of a guided tour. Our timed visit would have been good with a lunch, but it was just a tea room. We also bought items from the gift shop. Would recommend.
We happened upon Paisley Abbey whilst walking between the 2 railway stations in Paisley. What an incredible find.nnDripping in Scottish history, almost 1000 years old in parts.nnLovely friendly volunteer who was so helpful.
