It is the largest university press in the world. Its first book was printed in Oxford in 1478, with the Press officially granted the legal right to print books by decree in 1586. It is the second-oldest university press after Cambridge University Press, which was founded in 1534.nIt is a department of the University of Oxford. It is governed by a group of 15 academics, the Delegates of the Press, appointed by the vice-chancellor of the University of Oxford. The Delegates of the Press are led by the Secretary to the Delegates, who serves as OUP's chief executive and as its major representative on other university bodies. Oxford University Press has had a similar governance structure since the 17th century. The press is located on Walton Street, Oxford, opposite Somerville College, in the inner suburb of Jericho.nFor the last 400 years, OUP has focused primarily on the publication of pedagogical texts. It continues this tradition today by publishing academic journals, dictionaries, English language resources, bibliographies, books on Indology, music, classics, literature, and history, as well as Bibles and atlases.nOUP has offices around the world, primarily in locations that were once part of the British Empire.
When purchasing a book online for international delivery, the service is unable to send any confirmation that the shipment has been dispatched, which means it cannot be tracked. Currently, I haven’t received my order for two weeks, nor have I received any response for the past five days about the status of my shipment and purchase. I strongly advise against using this publisher’s services.
Oxford University Press is the largest university press in the world, and the second oldest after Cambridge University Press. Thing which i best remember is Oxford dictionary. Recommended!
The OUP is not only a reliable revenue source of the University of Oxford, but it also operates a small museum that showcases its global reach. You find early prints of the Oxford Almanacks, Alice in Wonderland and the Oxford English Dictionary displayed there. Best of all, admissions is free and you are accompanied by a member of archive staff.
