Oxford Bus Station is small in size but surprisingly busy and full of character. I took my bus to Birmingham from here, and the station itself is easy to navigate with clear boarding points. The main waiting area feels compact and can get crowded, especially during peak hours, with limited open space to sit or move around comfortably.nnWhat really stands out is the back side of the station, which feels almost like a mini local market. There are plenty of food options, including Chinese and African cuisines, along with other quick eats. You’ll also find small shops selling key chains, decorative items, and even places offering jersey painting, which gives the area a lively, multicultural vibe rather than a typical transit feel.nnA lesser-known historical fact: Oxford was among the early English cities to run organized horse-drawn coach services in the 17th century, making it an early pioneer of public transport long before modern bus terminals existed.nnOverall, it’s practical and well-located, not fancy, but efficient and full of local energy. It does the job and gives you a real slice of everyday Oxford life.
Not a bad bus station. A lot of bus bays. Easy to catch a bus. Helpful staff. Couple of snack shops and many around the bus station even pubs and restaurants as well. City centre is few mins walk away, so do the train station.
Actually, by that standards of most UK cities, this is pretty nice as a central bus station. It's clean and very close to the centre of the city and to the railway station. It's from this station that you would get the bus to Blenheim Palace. Free and decent public toilets.
Buses are leaving to all airports such as Luton, Stanford, Heathrow, Gatwick etc and local cities.nSome buses go directly to small airports, where with a train you need to change 2 to 3 times. A train changing is happening in London where you are expected to move between stations ...in time...nIf you travel to an airport, you may have a luggage and it makes changing stations challenging. Also, train seems to be a double of the price...nOxford to Luton costed 20.20 ponds, and in 2 hours you are there.nLastly, stuff in the bus station were very helpful and polite.nSurprisingly, I experienced an arrogance and rudeness in Oxford train station when asking for help to buy a ticket.nI choose Bus ;!
The Oxford food market is just a few steps away. So is the cinema and shopping mall. Taxis will not drop you inside nor will they pick you up from directly in front of the bus station. I would advise getting picked up from near George Street near O Neil’s.
