The locals and people from the surrounding area were remembering their hero who led an uprising against the English this day 16th Sept 1400. It is not known how Owain died.
Colin Spofforth's magnificent masterpiece statue set in the centre of Corwen, North Wales of Owain Glyndwr - Welsh hero and last native Prince of Wales deserves 5 stars and is surely a must to visit for every student of 'Hanes Cymru'. It's presence is good for the town and the beautiful countryside surrounding it which deserves the support and sponsorship of the sensitive and informed visitor. Owain Glyndwr day is September 16th and there is a small ceremony in the town at the statue every year to mark the moment of his declaration as 'Tywysog Cymru' over 600 years ago. Next year it falls on a Friday and is followed by a medieval festival set in the meadows below the town called 'Gwyl y Fflam' Festival of the Flame on the 17th and 18th of September. The two-day event re- emerging from the constraints of lockdown aims to celebrate Owain along with other Welsh Princes with living history and re-enactment as well as a variety of medieval arts, crafts, music and poetry events connected to Wales. It's a great family opportunity to learn more about Welsh history to which all are given a warm welcome.
The pride the people of of this town have for this man is amazing, the history itself is as utterly amazing. the Glyndwr hotel itself I recommend as well. 10/10 a place I recommend for everyone!
