The real Turkish experience. I know it well because my wife is Turkish and I have been in Istanbul many times. We were served by Rafi, super attentive. Always paying attention to our needs. Food was great. I am not going to lie, the prices I saw at the menu weren’t cheap but with the inflation hitting us I am not sure anymore. What I can say is that I am used to go to a Turkish restaurant the top ones are in Green Lane, near Turnpike Lane and a nice grilled Seabream my favourite fish is between £15-17. Here the Seabass was £21. Again, not sure the current prices around yet. We arrived at 15:30 for a lunch and luckily we were just on time for the lunch set menu. It was fantastic! Check the pics of every single plate and the bill for prices! Same menu for evening is £5 more. Fair enough… Food was really good but more importantly, how freshly prepared all the chopped vegetables were. The restaurant atmosphere was outstanding. Super clean and welcoming. Same with toilets. Definitely we’ll come back again for the “a la carte” menu and review it again for Those high prices I saw. At the end we met the owner, Erol, yes like Errol Flint!. Such a great person and superb profesional. Old style welcoming, service and attention that nowadays looks totally gone. Desserts were good enough not mind blowing Lunch/ dinner set menu? Totally heads up!! You won’t be disappointed!
Great little spot with Great tasting food, super friendly staff and just simply an awesome experience. They even let my shake my own cocktail behind the bar.
It was quite a grown up place by the atmosphere and service, we were greeted by the staff in a very professional manner. They were keen to accommodate any requests and made sure we were treated well. The lighting used low voltage so it did seem dark and a bit difficult to see anything, but it was nicely decorated. The food itself was nicely presented, although a bit disappointed to learn they didn't serve bulgur, which I thought would be normal for a Turkish restaurant. The portions were smaller than usual for a similar meal at other places, but the quality made up for it. Parking might be a bit difficult as it is on a main road, it might be easier in the evening as the restrictions are eased up.
Such a lovely restaurant and staff. This is one of my very few Google reviews but I had to make sure I give them a great rating after the nice dinner and experience I had with my friends this evening. The food was delicious and the portions were big. The restaurant looks beautiful and cosy- we were sat next to the fireplace. The staff were very nice and attentive, particularly Erol. Such a gentleman, he was so kind to us I had to make sure that I get his name and thank him here for his wonderful service.
Nice relaxed atmosphere, set menu was great value with a good choice of dishes to choose from. Tables could be a bit more updated
A fantastic quality lunch today. The highlight was the exceptional service from the young lady who was serving us - she was incredible and a waitress and have an air of elegance to the restaurant. The food did not disappoint and the salmon was the best I've eaten in a while. Was nervous to try here but not disappointed at all and recommend highly
Absolutely terrible. After seeing the good reviews I ordered food for my elderly mum. I ordered falafel, mixed vegetables and rice. The falafels were burnt, I tried one and could barely bite into it. The mixed vegetables were soggy my mum didn't even bother to try them. My mum didn't even want to try the rice, I tried the rice and it had a funny taste to it. The bread was stone cold. For the price they charge you would expect very good food but it was terrible. My elderly mum was left hungry and very disappointed. My mum phoned the restaurant to complain and the man on the phone was not pleasant at all. My mum was getting annoyed with him so she passed the phone to me. He was rude, condescending, obnoxious and arrogant. I tried to explain about the burnt falafels but he didn't want to listen, he kept interrupting me and telling me that the falafels were not burnt, that no one else has complained and they have been open for 20 years ect ect. I told him that I eat falafels and I make them. I have made falafels quite a few times so I know when they are overcooked and burnt. He then said with an attitude 'well how do you make them then'. I was shocked at how he spoke to me. He then kept going on and on about how they're made and I told him numerous times that I know how they are made. He then called me stupid! I'm absolutely appalled at his behaviour. He kept rambling on and on so I had to end the call. I'm very upset at how I was treated. I would highly avoid at all costs. Save your money and go to Gökyüzü in Walthamstow.
Lovely spot in Wanstead, their Otto Chicken with mushrooms is amazing, although this time I went for meat moussaka, which was surprisingly lovely! Their lunch set menu gives a nice options to choose, recommend choosing cheesecake for dessert.Recommended dishesMoussaka
Otto is situated on my favourite local high street in Wanstead. In the summer the front of the restaurant opens up and allows for the natural lighting, cool air and chatter to freely flow. For two people alone we wanted to try a lot and so ordered: Mixed mezze dips, Baba ganoush, Hummus, Spinach and feta borek, Grilled king prawns, Chicken on skewer, Fresh mussels and Otto stuffed mushrooms! Yes there was a lot of food but luckily we went before the busy evening rush and so were seated for three hours to get through every small plate. The food as a whole was cooked and seasoned well, packed with flavour and offered a satisfying taste of Mediterranean cuisine. The atmosphere is relaxed and I quite enjoy a restaurant with staff that allow the guests to sit back and enjoy the food and ambience without any pressure. Towards the end of our meal we spoke to the manager and in conversation told him we were celebrating a birthday - some minutes later he came out with one of the best cheesecakes I have had. What a pleasant surprise! Thank you so much for having us.
Good food, decor and service. Fair value. Would return.
