Years ago when Oscar’s had a spot in the Temple Bar area, we frequently went and we’re always happy with the food and drinks there. It’s also the case for Oscar’s in Smithfield. Fair prices and a there’s a good selection on their menu, Oscar’s do food and gin and tonic well. In the past, we’ve had their buffalo chicken wings, fish and chips and mussels and all of them were delicious – the mussels in particular! During our recent visit, we had the Caesar salad and also their avocado toast with poached eggs. The Caesar salad tasted fresh and the chicken that came with it was nicely cooked. The avocado toast with the poached eggs was wonderfully creamy and divine. As always, the service is consistently excellent. Well done, Oscar’s!
I really liked the atmosphere in this Art Deco leather bound study look-and-feel. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The burgers however was overcooked and lacked flavour. The sticky toffee dessert with vanilla ice cream was excellent. Maybe it was just a bad night.
A last-minute meal with some coworkers went really well. The setting is lovely, the staff is helpful and present, and the cuisine is excellent. We began with a salumi starter before moving on to the mussels and other dishes, which included burgers and sandwiches. all is well. We will undoubtedly return.
Helpful personnel and there was a lot of them. They did not know about the IBU's of beers, but they gave me many small samples to taste the bitterness myself. Food was okay, but it did not have taste at all. Maybe because of the traditional portion I took: fish and chips. Place is big and clean. Somehow it was lacking cosyness.
Really nice place to have a chat and a really nice Irish whiskey. Specially with the manager's recommendations based on his love for whiskey and his knowledge! I now have a new friend to come back to whenever I'm back in Dublin and a new favourite bar!! Cheers from the Spanish lads you just hosted!!
Good place for brunch and dinner. They have nice salads and a few vegetarian dishes worth trying. Also they have a freshly pressed orange juice which is a must for me. Also, very nice irish atmosphere.
Polished and neat, lounge type atmosphere, chill vibe. Friendly, courteous staff. Decent menu choices. I had the fish chowder, and I was very pleased. A chunk of haddock, cod, or mussel in every bite, smooth, savory broth, well seasoned. Accompanied it with the house salad. Met all expectations. Could be a five if prices were more relaxed, especially drink prices. There is a drink menu, but pricing was not clearly stated for many items.
friendly but so slow service. badly organised. waitress came to take our order as we sat down, i barely had a chance to read through the menu, she left didn't even take an order for the drinks. long story short i had my warm salad hour later. it wasn't bad in fairness, a bit too salty hence the soy. so instead of quick lunch it was 1,5hr
Oscar's is always a reliable place for good food, service, and atmosphere. Every so often though, inconsistency can creep in. Had the chicken Caesar salad a few weeks ago and it was ideal. Today though for lunch, there was far too much sauce see attached; and I say that as someone who is a fan of the sauce on this kind of salad. It was too saturated. Also, the large croutons were way too tough - almost uncomfortable to eat again, this wasn't the case with the same salad a few weeks before. Apart from that kind of occasional inconsistency with the quality of food, Oscars remains a top place to visit. I'll be back for sure, and hopefully these kind of avoidable consistency issues will be cleared up at some point - which I'm sure they will be.
Nicely located in Smithfield. Ambience and design of the place were nice. The tables were too close to each other though.. food portion was alright.. service was fine
