My partner needed a good quality top hat at short notice, I was stuck in traffic and I called Oliver Brown from Oxford street during rush hour, they were due to close fairly soon, I explained that I am on the way to the store, they assured me they would wait for me, I arrived 10 minutes before they closed, the two gentleman that served me, Ben and David were so helpful, jovial, pleasant and really nothing was too much, Ben explained the different fabrics they had, they had a wide range considering the busy Ascot period. I did not feel rushed to make a decision, thank you Ben and David for assisting me to find the perfect hat. I am actually quite surprised at some of the bad reviews, I would say, do not let them put you off, I had an extremely pleasant experience in store.
I bought some very expensive clothes from Oliver Brown; but when I wanted to return some, all of my communications with the company went unanswered. Completely impossible to get hold of. Avoid.
Do not rent a suit from this place. Part of their policy is to take all of the details from your credit card. The long card number, expiry, and security code. Everything necessary to make a transaction over the phone. They write them on a piece of paper and put them in a safe. Once you return the suit they dispose of the details. What they don't tell you is that the "safe" is a lock box that could be opened in seconds with a crowbar. They also don't tell you that they're not good at actually putting those details into said "safe". They managed to lose my piece of paper. And then they say they'll phone to let you know they've found the paper and are disposing of it. Still waiting for that call. So they're incompetent or disrespectful. Either way you shouldn't use their services.
Unapologetically dismal customer service. I ordered and paid for a hat. Two weeks later the money was returned to my bank account. No message from OB, no apology. If my bank had not sent me the message I would still be waiting. Can I offer some advice OB? don’t sell stuff you don’t have and if you do then tell people straight away. I am now rushing round at the last minute and paying over the odds. And here is the worst part - they did exactly the same thing to my wife when she tried to buy my Christmas present. Order was accepted, followed by a long wait and then the money was refunded- no message no apology and no Christmas present for me!
Update: I received a call from the MD to apologise and put things right. That was good customer service. Original post for transparency: this is not about the physical store but about my online order which was awful. I hired a tux for an event on Friday and was told that I would get a notification when it was ready, the notification never came despite promises from the customer service that I would be contacted. I was eventually contacted today after the event and told I could not cancel the order after the event. In sum total, I was made to pay for a service that I never received.
Update: I received a kind email of customer service to apoligise and to offer me the VAT. An excellent customer service. Thank you. I bought a morning suit at Oliver Brown. I was helped well by Ben. As I was unable to take the trousers and top hat back to Europe, Oliver Brown sent these items via DHL. In the shop, I asked questions about VAT, which they would look at. Several times I emailed Oliver Brown regarding the VAT but I never got any answer. I got a phone call from Oliver Brown where they confirmed I should not pay VAT twice and they would inform me through email. Again, no email. I tried to phone them, but ... busy tone. Now I ended up paying VAT twice, and no customer service contacting me. A huge disappointment to me.
Very poor customer service and poor communication. Having received the incorrect size jacket, I was assured the correct size would be sent. This did not happen and my emails ignored. Thank you for spoiling my wedding!
Went to Oliver Brown for a dinner suit for my wedding and rentals for my groomsmen - Faisal and Lee were absolutely fantastic, the alterations to my own suit were perfect and they made the whole experience a great one! Would highly recommend Oliver Brown to anyone.
I saw their website and about. It seemed very legit but when I came to the store. I checked the quality of material and in my very honest opinion. The quality of the jackets are low. If you want to buy a great design , go for it. But if your looking for the fabric to be good quality then pls avoid. The people were nice and the shop looked great . But believe me when I tell you the jackets are cheap quality. Not very cheap but way cheaper than it’s cost. If you go to marks and Spenser, reiss, or Cordings and check the material and compare it to Oliver brown , you can tell quite easily that this place is very pretentious. It’s a shame because 10 years back independent retailers use to do better quality than some high street brands but now a lot of independent stores have gone too greedy. The mark up is very high. Soon after I went to Harrods to look for a high quality jacket , and well priced . I found that Paul smith had a very nice velvet jacket for 900 pound. Those jackets were also overpriced but 5 years ago they use to sell for 500. But at least the quality hasn’t gone down. To conclude if you’re looking for a great jacket , please visit the shop rather than look online. Some of these online shops have great websites and great “about us” but their actual material is thin , stitching and the feel just isn’t great. It’s very disappointing because some of us are looking to go to a special event. And those who know about Material would also know that it’s cheap. They deceive you by the design . Just compare with the shops I’ve mentioned and decide for yourself. This is for medium priced jackets , 300 to 600 pounds. Obviously there are higher quality but those can go up to 2000 pounds. Thank you. And to Oliver brown I’m really sorry but it’s the truth.
It was my first experience with Oliver Brown. The day before I called in to ask about sizes and stock availability as I’d seen some really good jackets in the sale, I was kindly advised by a pleasant lady over the phone to come in-store on Lower Sloane Street. So there I was the following evening. I’m really tall 6’5 so quite often find it hard to get my size. They were busy so I waited about 3-5 minutes before a gentleman told me he’d get someone to see to me. After about 1 minute I was kindly greeted by a nice chap named Roy. He clearly knew what he was doing and although the jackets in the sizes I wanted were only available online, he was more than helpful in helping me find a jacket in my size so I could figure out how they fit in general, also gave me some fashion tips of which I found quite helpful. In the end I purchased 3 jackets and will most definitely be returning again to get more. All I can say is QUALITY!
