Old Street Station is served by the Northern line and Great Northern trains this station has had brand new entrance just opened with a lift installed there. The ticket hall area is large and wide with plenty of ticket barriers to use here. Once getting to the platforms it's stairs only. The underground part of the station was clean and tidy however the national rail part was dirty and smelly and could do with some paint over it. It's very easy to interchange with the two different lines here.
This was a brilliant station for both arrival and departure, with strong lighting across the streamlined roof! The departure boards are kept up to date, stair case is a solid exit and cleanliness was enforced.
I’m absolutely delighted with the transformation of Old Street Station and its improved entrances and exits. I worked in Old Street many years ago, and back then, the overcrowding made commuting a nightmare. Thinking back, even the company I worked for then was pretty toxic—so it wasn’t exactly a great experience overall!nnFast forward to now, and the changes at the station have been remarkable. A huge thank you to the station team for their exceptional service. Over the summer of 2024, I accidentally dropped my book onto the tracks one evening while heading home from work. I spoke to one of the station guards, who took my details and assured me that the cleaning team would retrieve it during the quiet hours. Honestly, I didn’t think much would come of it—but to my surprise, I received a call that same evening from a lovely lady letting me know my book had been recovered and handed to the station manager. Yippee!nnThe next time I was working in the area, I stopped by the station, spoke to the manager, and retrieved my book. The entire process was smooth, and the service I received was outstanding.nnThank you so much, team—you’re doing a fantastic job!nnTo anyone who might hesitate to contact the station if you lose something: don’t! There are still plenty of honest and helpful folks out there, and the Old Street Station team is a testament to that.
The 1960’s traffic “roundabout”, the underground station pedestrian entrances, now with lifts, entirely reconfigured and modernised.nWork commenced in 1999 and completed in 2024 with major internal mechanical and electrical upgrades.nThe visible results, at this time, unimpressive: unquestionably NOT the promised vavoom iconic gateway to London’s Tech hub.nThe sterile new public space studded with stainless steel bollards less a welcome to a futuristic “Silicon Roundabout” than to Judge Dredd’s “Mega-City One”nThe seamlessly depersonalised internal pedestrian walkways an embarrassment of bread ‘n butter functionalism without a hint of aesthetic merit.nThe new “Old” Street says it all.
Modern looking tube station. Standard configuration. You exit into a parade of food supermarkets Lidi Marks and a large Argos.
