The Old Gaol is home to Buckingham's museum and tourist information centre.

Story

Located in the heart of historic market town of Buckingham, the iconic Old Gaol was built in 1748 in the style of a castle, with later additions in 1839 by the famous local architect George Gilbert Scott. It is one of the key visitor attractions of Buckingham.

The purpose-built prison is now a museum, a tourist information centre, a gift shop, a second hand bookstore and a unique venue to hire.

Sadly the museum was not open yet the building is magnificent
Visited the museum last year. It’s an old style museum with exhibits dioramas and the like. This old Gaol is as pretty inside as out and the museum tells the story of the town and the role of the gaol in its history. A good way to spend an afternoon.
Great for local history with its tour inside the jail. Needs a coffee shop inside. Needs some fresh ideas as I think they don't put much investment into the experience. Still a good cheap tourist attraction
This was a great place to visit lots of history and information. Some lovely things for the kids to do too. Very reasonable.
Offers good tourist information for Buckingham and gives you the opportunity to buy good souvenirs. The museum is also interesting, fun, and entertaining. Definitely a good place to visit.
A wonderful experience....visit the Tourist Information part of The Old Gaol and have a look at the wonderful local products for sale within which include the Famous WdWrKs range of hand made products
Very small but interesting.
Very interesting small museum. Packed with information and artefacts but not too large to bore small children. A good starting point for new visitors to the town.
Very interesting market town Gaol, explains the history in an interesting manner, with a quiz for the younger visitors. Recommend you make a visit if in the area. Buckingham itself is a good place to visit full of history and a pleasant riverside walk.
