Piccadilly Circus  £6.40 Heineken Soho Pub Royalty. The Old Coffee House is located on Beak Street, Soho in the West End of London. The nearest Tube is Piccadilly Circus, it’s a five minute walk to get here. This pub was first built in 1772 and was originally called The Silver Street Coffee House. The pub was rebuilt in 1894 and renamed The Old Coffee House, Silver Street was renamed Beak Street in 1883. This is a one bar pub that has separate dining area upstairs. The decor here is everything you would wish a Soho pub to look like. This pub is a treasure trove of silver screen and music memorabilia from across the ages. There is also beautiful Truman’s mirrors, antique whiskey and beer signs, a few stuffed animals and the odd naked lady painting adorning the walls. The servery stretches down the left hand side and has a traditional back bar. The seating is a mix of burgundy banquettes with matching low level stools dotted around in cosy nooks and crannies. To complete the look and feel of this oldschool pub, there is a plethora of pots hanging from the ceiling and a patterned red carpet running throughout. The beer selection is solid mix of mainstream beers plus two cask ales. I decided on a Heineken, my pint was great, price point was average for the West End. The food menu is classic pub grub, as you can imagine, Fish & Chips is popular with the tourists that visit. I visited on a Friday around 4pm for an afterwork pint. As always, the pub was packed with not a spare seat in the house. The punters were a mix of locals, afterwork drinkers and excited tourists looking for a coffee. The atmosphere was upbeat and buzzy, at the same time it felt relaxed and convivial due to the cosy nature of the pub. The service was on point, even though it was busy, I was served in no time at all. I first started drinking in Soho in the late 1980’s when Soho to me was a place of mystique. You would walk down one street and it would be packed with people, then walk down the next and it would feel moody and edgy. Today, Soho is a sanitised place, but if you look close enough, you can find remnants and reminders of the past. Visiting @theoldcoffeehouse is one such reminder, a pub full of character, charm and how I remember Soho of yesteryear. The next time you visit the West End, be sure to visit this wonderful Soho boozer. ℹ Info correct on visiting 03.11.23
It’s a rarity to find a pub that is willing to serve up a sandwich nowadays. But that’s not the only thing I like about this pub. The decor presents a lifetime of stories and from what I’ve read from other reviewers has a long history. The music emphasises its location and connection to the music that is part of Soho’s history. So pleased I’ve found a new favourite destination. Thank you barman.
This was rather busy for a Tuesday afternoon. I don't know if the had supply problems but only 2 out of 6 cask pumps were on and 3 keg pumps were empty. They did have a good selection of 20 or so whiskies, I opted for a double Bullit bourbon at £10.30, I also noted that Fosters was reasonably priced at £5.80. I did not like the small glass the whisky came in but overall a pub well worth visiting.
Guinness tasted fine. But the toilets stank and the whole pub smelt because of it. Also, saw a mouse run across the floor so definitely wouldn’t eat there.
Didn't have any food, but loved the pub. Had an antique shop feel to it, very quirky. Would recommend and will visit again.Service: 5/5
Dear Old Coffee House. We pop here quite regularly as you are by the office. The food is great, the beer is good and the place is cool. Please, oh please, sort your toilets out. I’ve just been in the toilets at Lewisham train station and they smell majestic in comparison. A toilet refurb and very strong air fresheners are desperately required. With love and respect.
Excellent vibe. Interior is super traditional pub. Thank goodness this is away from the craziness of the Soho crowd. We’re from the States… Popped in for a brief beer and snack at the bar. Tried all the Brodies - not for me, but the partner drank a Bethnal Green and survived. Guiness for me and we devoured these chips - well, I had the Scampi fries. People downstairs were clearly having fun and we would return if we are in the area.
Found this little gem in passing , popped in for a couple of drinks before dinner , Nice little boozer , good selection of drink and snacks and good decor
Traditional pub hidden away but I can't really sing its praises. It's so cluttered with ornaments, it just felt dirty, it has very ancient carpets and the ladies toilets wasn't very pleasant. Very old fashioned but some people like that sort of thing. So therefore only my opinion.Service: 3/5
Went there for a drink with a friend i havent seen in a decade. Old friend from hong kong, the decor is great and i know my friend being a Brit overseas would love the interior of this place. It didn't disappoint the wallsns ceilings were covered in prints and artwork. He loved it. I really love a place that is filled with character and this is. The staff are friendly and efficient. Drinks cold and it got full here on a Monday afternoon. I really enjoyed our few hours here. Do check it out. Just watch your items. It being the west end.
