This is a 5 star review that I could and should have written many times. In over 25 years of visiting this restaurant, we have had one memorable and delicious meal after another. While over the years the entrance has begun to look a little tired and unloved, there is nothing not to love once you taste the food. The menu hasn’t varied much, also not a negative, it is all so well thought out and cooked perfectly that you will just want to eat there again and again. Try the mushrooms, the kidneys, the little fish cake starters, the duck, the chicken, Guinea fowl, hake and all the really delicious sauces that go with each. Large generous portions of fresh vegetables, well chosen, reasonably priced wines, good background music and an ambience where it is obvious that the food is being enjoyed at each of the small number of tables. Find me a better orange ice cream at desert and I’ll probably have to meet you in Italy. This truly is a must-visit. Another triumph of a meal and bringing our son along this evening for the first time, secured Chef John Waddell, a next generation of diners!

Hadn't been to this little gem for ages, but was warmly welcomed along with my friends by Bobby, the super friendly and attentive waiter. My warm goat's cheese starter and main course, lamb and chickpea meat balls were fabulous. We shared one enormous meringue dessert between us. What better way to spend a wet and windy Wednesday?
Had a brilliant 80th birthday bash here for a great friend. Restaurant taken over for the night, food, drink and service all first class.
Another great meal. Kidney starter is wonderful. Ask for more bread to soak up the sauce. Not long before I'll be back again.
