I recently had a two night stay here after undergoing surgery.nStarting with parking it’s free but very small so it can be hard to find a space but you don’t have to go far to park on side streets etc. I got taken to my room which was immaculate, everything was spotless, I have attached photos, I’d say looking at some other rooms I had a smaller one but it was nice and cosy and exactly what I needed :nThe staff there are brilliant, I was under Bilal Alkhaffaf and his team, the theatres lady’s there helping especially Kate really put my mind at ease and I was super comfortable going in for the procedure!nCome around I was abit rough but all the staff were super friendly and were super patient with me, nothing was ever to much! I was looked after a lot by Aileen Benig who must be the most caring person ever, again nothing was ever to much, she was so kind and calming and reassured me everytime, everytime the buzzer was pressed no matter what time of the day they come and seen me swiftly! The catering staff were also very very friendly! I had a fantastic stay under the circumstances and I wouldn’t hesitate to have any other surgery here again.
I have had an abdominal surgery. Everything from the very beginning was really fantastic. Every person who looked after me, answered my questions was very nice and knowledgeable. The nurse I remember the most was Aileen I hope I wrote that correctly, because she spent the most time with me and nothing was ever a problem for her. But also my consultant Dr. Nethra and the anaesthesiologist and the whole surgery time, and also post surgery care were very professional and nice. Thank you so much for looking after me. I couldn't ask for more.
Had an operation on Oaklands Hospital, the day staff were so much friendlier and pleasant than the night staff, one night nurse gave me 120mg of codeine, which was the incorrect dose. The day staff were great, but a little more communication is required, I was left a syringe of paracetamol, but no-one explained what it was.
In august 2023 I had hernia repair surgery at Oaklands and overall my experience was disappointing. After asking about if the anaesthesia drug they were using was suitable for a breastfeeding mother I had received three different answers and information and this made me really unsettled. After a while I was quickly informed I was being taken down for surgery and I asked the nurse again what aneathesia drug they were going to use. She informed of one that wasn’t compatible with breastfeeding, again this made me anxious. The nurse told me that my baby will just have to not have breastmilk and suggested it may be a good opportunity to wean him which I had not indicated in anyway. Once my surgery was completed and I woke up from anaesthetic the nurse made no conversation with me and I felt like just a number. This was my first time being put to sleep and understandably I felt quite vulnerable. After a few hours they sent me home. I had no conversation of how the surgery went, no indication of what to expect post surgery I had a few symptoms that weren’t explained or warned about and no follow up appointment. I left feedback for Oaklands explaining the above and they contacted me to ask to speak about further. To which I replied I would be happy to. They never called.
I had to wait 12 months for an mri and 14 months for a face to face appointment to be told I needed major surgery that could not be performed their. 2 appointments were changed the 3rd I turned up to the hospital on the 23rd December to be told by a auxillary there were no doctors on site. The doctor rang whilst there and apologised, he then told me to turn up in January for me to ring the week before and find out this was not booked in. It was a fibroid that had grown from 8cm to over 20 by the time I had my surgery in an nhs hospital it had grown to 25x15cm leaving me with a vertical scar and distorted stomach. I would NEVER return to this hospital. Receptionists are also rude.
