Whilst staying in Weymouth on a last minute school holiday trip, we visited the Fort and it really helped keep the kids entertained for a good few hours. There are steps leading up to the Fort from different entrance points of the pier. I didn't see a suitable access point for a wheelchair user and inside there are steps up and down. For £1.20 you can buy a little notebook with pencil for kids to count the number of ceramic mice dotted around the place... keep an eye out : This gives them a focus and instead of looking around old things they have a game to play, at the end she received a certificate for having fun! Happy bunny. The Cafe is reasonably well priced and has a good selection... the kids lunch bags make a good choice and things easier. Being a vegetarian the choice is limited but that's to be expected. It was lovely to see the Olympic medals and my 7 year old also enjoyed the mice, food and tunnel. The staff were very friendly and patient. Definitely visit if you're in the area, even if it's just for a cup of tea and cake and a well deserved 5 minutes break.
This place was fantastic. Much better than we had anticipated. The volunteers that works here are super knowledgable and are willing to share that knowledge. Great little cafe is found inside the fort as well as modern toilets. Make sure if you visit you go to every part of the fort to make sure you learn of the role this place has played throughout its history. I also feel it would be a great place to bring kids as there are some interactive elements within the fort.
Went with my grandchildren for the Halloween experience. There was a magic show, wizard school where they made a magic potion, ghost tunnel and lots of other little activities all included in the entry price. And also the usual mouse hunt which we're hidden in the first; the kids love that. My daughter had bought a family season ticket in the summer when we visited costing not much more than a single family entry ticket. We used this for the Halloween day. Excellent value. There's so much of interest to look at and do for adults and kids. The staff are all lovely and helpful. The scenery and views of Weymouth Bay and beyond are stunning. All in all a great day out and a must do if in Weymouth.
Good place for a day out. Though it's one of those things that you go once then you don't want to go again for a while. Although this being said it's a lovely place full of many historical things to look at and learn from and has amazing figures to look at. Also has interactive things around the fort which is great for kids and has a lovely restaurant and modern toilets
Such a unique experience. This is definitely a must-do for anyone visiting Weymouth. There's a wonderful little cafe, a fantastic depth of history to discover and wonderful views at the same time. From a ghost passage to the nuclear bomb shelter there is something for absolutely everyone. We will definitely be back.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
We haven't visited Nothe Fort for many years and we weren't disappointed this time. We went as a family with teenage children and we all enjoyed ourselves. Staff and volunteers were friendly and helpful, we were able to park very close but it's also a lovely walk from the town. There is lots to see and learn, depending on how interested you are - small snippets of info or bigger info boards. It's great to see rooms of the era as they would have been and find out what they ate, a typical day of a soldier, lots of models, including one showing how Nothe Fort was built. There is a lovely cafe that we purchased cold drinks, tea, coffee and cakes from. We paid for entry and received annual membership cards. All in all, a great place to visit bringing back lovely childhood memories. Would definitely recommend.
A real eye opener for those of us that were not alive during this period of time. I found the staff really helpful & kind. It's not overpriced & worth every penny, you can tell they are working very hard to make all the themes as authentic as possible. Information videos in most of the displays & some life stories of people who lived & worked there. Very much worth a visit. The views you get from the top of the fort are absolutely beautiful. You can also cut across the bay by getting the man powered ferry boat, lovely way to start your visit of the Fort.
The Fort consists of an underground area displaying lots of facts and a ghost tunnel. It was very cold so wear something warm. A lift enabled my son and mum access to all areas. The middle area has a great tearoom supplying simple food, drinks and outside seating. The top of the Fort has incredible views of Weymouth and surrounding areas. There is a pretty park area to explore outside the Fort. Only one negative might be the entrance cost as some people might expect more for their money. For my family, the cost allowed free entry for carers which made the visit a reasonably priced day out.
Loved it as a kid, still love it as an adult. Lots of history with impressive fortifications and armaments. The views and surrounding gardens are spectacular and offer panoramas of the entire bay and across to Portland. Huge thanks to the guy in the gift shop who entertained 30-somethings and helped us find some of the toy mice dotted around the entire fort something usually aimed at the kids it put youthful smiles on our faces. Good afternoon out for the family.
Lovely visit. Food in cafe was very well presented, and nice too. Staff lovely. Main attraction is great, volunteers are amazing, we were greeted by Ian who spent plenty time talking to us and making it fun for the kids. Loved the views, spying the clay mice. Toilets are small but we're v clean. Worth a visit. Just bare in mind narrow streets to get there.
